Mission: The Martell Family Home For Battered Women and Families, Inc. was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in Vermont in 1998, and the corporation was registered with the IRS as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization in 1999. The purpose of the Martell Family Home is planning to build clusters of transitional housing for battered women and their children and to provide much needed services to those women and their children. The Mission of Martell Family Home is to provide refuge for battered women and their children that are in or have been in a domestic abuse relationship, and are in need of protection. The goal is to enable these women to transition from an abusive lifestyle to one of improved self-esteem and independence. Battered women and their children will realize there is a safer and better life for them, and help stop the cycle of abuse. The Martell Family Home has received an offer of 10 acres of donated land in the Milton area of Vermont.

The program that the Martell Family Home proposes to allow stays of up to six months, as contrasted with the 2-to-28 day stays offered in the existing few shelters that are currently operating in Vermont
