Mission: The mission of the Mariner's Educational Center is organized exclusively for educational furtherance. The Center's primary purpose is to combat the chronic problem of academic failure and low self-esteem among Lower East Side youth. This will be accomplished by having safe, structured and supervised programs through after school and summer camp settings. Homework assistance, educational outings, sports events and special performing activities highlight these programs. In addition to the aforementioned target group we endeavor to expand our educational services to the adult population. The Center's goals are to create an educational platform that will create synergy between Lower East Side residents and various venues, such as, the home, school, church, colleges and universities. This synergism will promulgate guidelines that will address directly, the problems inner city youth face daily. Specifically, we will confront and counter academic failure with remedial tutorial programs and motivational exercises.
