Causes: Education
Mission: To promote safe bicyling for everyday transportation and recreation. This is accomplished by working with local jurisdictions to design improved bicycle facilities, identifying project funding, and providing countywide bicycling education.
Programs: Safe routes to schools program: provided bicycle safety education to approx. 27,000 children at 52 public and private schools. Produced newsletters, posters, and fact sheets; coordinated classes, assemblies, bike rodeos, contests, special events, and volunteers; surveyed student participation; maintained website.
other bicycle safety oriented programs: mcbc conducts its own or participates in other events to promote our core work of bicycle safety, education and improved trail and road facilities, as well as to bring the organization and generate revenues. The events include the dirt fondo and tour de marin rides, biketoberfest, locust rides, and bike to work day events, and our valet bike parking service. Mcbc's local education programs teach safe bicycling to adults and children through basic street skills, women on wheels, and family biking workshops.
on-road advocacy: worked with local towns and county to implement master bike/ped plan projects; participated in regional, state and national legislation development; produced educational materials; maintained website.
