Mission: The marin audubon society is dedicated to active participation in conservation, environmental education, and enjoyment of our natural heritage. We advocate sound land and water resource planning, and act to restore, enhance, and safeguard our wetlands and other natural habitats. Birds and other wildlife are the indicators of the health or our environment, and we remain committed to their protection and preservation.
Programs: Conservationsecured grants and began tidal marsh restoration on our 5-acre property in corte madera. Began working on grant to design improvements, including sea level rise adaptation, on our 20-acre marsh property in san rafael. Continued monitoring and stewardship activities on our other properties (comprising 491 acres), focusing on bahia and triangle marshes. Advocated for the protection of wildlife and habitats on proposed development projects and other activities having potential impact on natural resources. Partnered with other organizations in legal efforts to protect the northern spotted owl. Served as fiduciary agent for marin baylands advocates, an organization focused on protecting baylands.
educationoffered 51 field trips, inaturalist and ebird workshops, and 10 speaker series programs on birds and other natural history topics. Sponsored 3 marin county christmas bird counts. Updated and published the 4th edition of our new easier to use bird checklist for marin county, with an increase of 17 species over our previous checklist. Published 10 newsletters, distributed electronically or by mail to our members. Newsletters included field trip reports, articles about climate change initiatives, and reports of our ongoing efforts to protect the environment.
