Mission: MALT provides family farmers and ranchers an alternative to selling and subdividing their land, so that they can continue farming and ranching. In doing so, we help sustain not only the viability of agriculture and local food, but also the agricultural heritage, rural character, and natural beauty of the land.
Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT) has long understood theimportance of education to the overall success of its land conservationprogram. MALT´s Education Program began in 1996 with a small offering of farmtours. The program has evolved into an enormously successful and popular way ofintroducing the public to MALT´s mission and goals. The Farm Field Studies facetof our Education Program is particularly focused towards classroom teachers andtheir students.
MALT offers the Farm Field Studies Program (FFS) toBay Area schools. Fifty percent of Marin's land-use base is tied toagriculture, yet many Bay Area children have never set foot on a working farm. Our program offers an opportunity for hands-on learning at a local farm orranch about the natural world, our food supply, nutrition, the local economy, and our rich California history.
We offer curriculum aids, including maps of Marinagriculture, science and nature activity kits, and lesson plans which correlateto the California Department of Education Frameworks for math, science,history-social science, and English-language arts.
