Mission: The Maranyundo Initiative is dedicated to providing both access and excellence in education to economically vulnerable girls in Rwanda. It accomplishes this goal in two ways. First, it provides grants to the Maranyundo School to support a portion of the operating budget for the school each year. This allows the school to continue to accept a significant portion of poor girls from rural areas of the country. Support of the operating budget is contingent on the school maintaining agreed upon standards of excellence, which are evaluated on a regular basis. Second, it provides special programming to enhance academic excellence through teacher development and training. This program provides skills-based training and ongoing support to teachers to foster student-centered learning methods in the classroom designed to develop critical thinking and leadership skills in students.
