Mission: The Society, founded in 1833 by Blessed Frederic Ozanam, helps people live their Christian faith by doing volunteer charity work with their neighbors in need through home visits and area wide special programs. The Society was founded in Paris by Sorbonne students and has now spread to over 130 countries. Our Manhattan Council was started in 1856 and was incorporated in 1872, the first council in the U.S. A summer camp program for poor inner-city children has been operated since 1905. A network of 15 food pantries has been operated by our Manhattan volunteers for over 21 years. Other special works include assistance with indigent burial arrangements and information and referral, holiday meal programs and Christmas distributions.
