Causes: Education
Mission: Maloto's mission is to transform the lives of vulnerable populations living in extreme poverty in Malawi by providing women and children with the opportunity to reach their full potential in an actively sustainable way. Maloto's vision is to create educated, empowered and productive communities in Malawi and to provide an opportunity for Africans to help Africans. Maloto values the insights and knowledge of local communities. We work directly with local partners to ensure development is relevant to people's lives and therefore sustainable.
Results: In 2004, Founder and President, Dr. Anna Msowoya-Keys, gathered 20 local women in Mzuzu, Malawi who committed to each feeding 20 AIDS orphans one hot meal a week. Today, over 350 children are fed a hot meal 3 times a week and tutored at our Kwithu CBO. Fifthy 3-4 yrs old attend our ECD program. Approximately 100 children are provided with scholarship money to attend secondary and tertiary school. In 2010, we opened Mzuzu Int'l Academy with 35 students and today have 350 primary and secondary day and boarding students. And in 2013, Kwithu Kitchen Women's Canning Cooperative was launched with tomato products that are sold in local markets, hotels and restaurants. In 2020 the business expanded to include honey products. Both the tomato and honey products are sourced from local farmers and bee keepers.
