Main Street Guymon has been amazing!! They work so hard to incorporate businesses, students, and citizens in our town into a productive, cohesive, and active community. The many different programs that they instigate and oversee has been phenomenal. I really like how they get students involved in civic activities.
I think the true difference here is the involvement! Melyn is so involved, so interested and leads by example. Main Street Guymon really wants to see our city flourish and they do everything they can to make that happen! They reach out to new businesses, host events, stay involved and support established businesses. They listen and ask for input. I had the privilege of attending one of their leadership classes. I have been at my same position for a lot of years, but wanted to see what I could learn. They had a diverse set of speakers that I learned so much from as well as from the other participants. It was a growing experience! I'm so proud we have such an amazing group in our small town! :-)
I met Meyln at a Thunder Blue meeting. Then there was a meeting for people to find out about Main Street. I started to volunteer for Main Street.I volunteered alot and loved it. One time I went in and she asked if I knew anyone who wanted to go to a Presorvation conference.I looked over the brochure and said I would go. It was in Perry Oklahoma. I loved it.Melyn has always been there to help anyone in our community. She has organized all sorts of different events. Our Main Street is a wonderful resource for our community.
I've been involved with the Main Street Guymon program since joining a book club there 10 years ago. The program brings people to downtown Guymon in so many ways. Throughout the year, it offers community events like Fiesta and Outback that hundreds of people attend. If other events are happening, like Shop & Dine, the director publishes the information on the Main Street Guymon Facebook page for more than 4,000 followers. More than that, the Main Street Guymon office is a hub for people looking to get involved in the community to meet with Melyn, the director, and learn how to do so.
