Causes: Environment, Natural Resources Conservation & Protection
Mission: To provide public education on conservation matters and to protect and enhance the heritage and quality of the life of the residents of morgan county by preserving historic sites, greenspace, farmland, and timberland.
Programs: Education & advocacy: the conservancy hosts a variety ofeducational eventsthroughout the year, and in 2017 hosted: conservation easement workshop, greenprint series (5 public meetings), the land stewardship workshop series (3 meetings, and launched the new junior conservancy.
resource protection: the goal of the endangered properties program is to secure endangered properties, stabilize them, and then market them to a conservation buyer who will agree to rehab the building to certain standards. In 2017 funded a feasibility study to determine if the conservancy should start the program.
technical assistance: the conservancy works closely with land developers, government officials, and the publicconcerning land use planning in order toprotect the natural,agricultural, andhistoric resources that are the basis for our two largest industries of agriculture and tourism,while allowing for both smart development and growth. In 2017 assisted landowners with the tdr program.
