Madison County Historical Society

Programs: Hop fest: this is a weekend event held on the lawn of the historical society in september of each year. There are day-long presentations on hop culture. The biggest draw is the beer tent which attracts several hundred people over the weekend. The event also includes a coach tour of hop kilns throughout madison county (for additional cost of $60) where the bus stops at various restaurants for samples of brews and various foods made from hops. The historical society depends of volunteers for this event and can usually count on at least thirty volunteers to assist in set up, guiding tours, driving bus, and securing the historical society property.

craft days: a juried three-day craft show is put on annually in august or september on the grounds of the historical society; vendors pay for a space to display their goods and there is a small gate fee for attendees. We rely on several volunteers to set up the tents, assist vendors, and to keep the property clean of litter and debris. The historical society also relies on volunteers to remain on-site throughout the evenings to secure the area. Although the number of volunteers varies, on average, we rely on approximately 35 volunteers over the course of the weekend. None of the volunteers is compensated although some of the food vendors provide free lunches to those volunteers who help set up the tents. Attendance to the event always depends on the weather and other activities scheduled in and around the area.

various programs: including a victorian christmas open house where the public is invited to tour the decorated period house, sample holiday confections, and enjoy musical acts performing holiday favorites. Weekly farmer's market where the public sells fresh fruit, vegetables and other goods.
