MITS has aided so many street children in changing their lives for the better. The staff are so incredible at what they do. It is hard to put into words how much MITS means to me and so many others. I went there for the first time when I was 13 years old--around the same age as a lot of the first year students. Now 21 years old, I have been back 4 times. I have grown up with many of the MITS students and have been able to see them grow and thrive in their new environments. Made in the Streets encourages growth, accountability, education, spirituality, acceptance...the list goes on. MITS has catered to hundreds of students by now, who probably would not be alive if it was not for this organization. This place shows real life change. Not only has it changed these kids' lives, but it has fundamentally changed my life too. Forever!!!

Psalm 113:7-8 says “He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; He seats them with the princes.” The redemptive nature of our God has been so close to me this summer while interning at Made in the Streets, I can almost taste it. Finding words to express the magnitude of His work that is being done here is impossible, but the beauty of our God is that He is greater than we could ever comprehend. My heart physically aches for the children in Nairobi with mismatched shoes, addicted to drugs they can’t even pronounce yet, and empty bellies that won’t be filled- yet I have hope. I have hope because I have watched the staff here tenderly comfort children on their first day on the streets, orphaned and alone. I have hope because despite all odds these kids laugh more in a day, than some have in a lifetime. I have hope because the same God that made the stars and parted the Red Sea is protecting these kiddos. Made in the Streets is the hands and feet of Jesus in the slums of Nairobi, and His way is being lived out by the community of MITS.

Made in the Streets is a veteran organization with a boarding school that has graduated hundreds of Kenyan teens formerly experiencing homelessness (some for many years) who elected to come off the streets, join MITS, and change their lives. The program starts with residential academic rigor with excellent Kenyan teachers and ends with skills training to be employable in the booming Kenyan economy. Alongside the approximately 100 teens in the residential program in any given year in the suburbs, MITS' Eastleigh location serves the slum's street teen population in many ways and is a respected member of the community. MITS is having its 25th anniversary in 2020--it was started in 1995 by an American couple and Kenyan teens with hearts for ministry to this undervalued demographic. This is a photo of my daughter who is currently serving a three-month internship with MITS.
