Programs: The macon county care network, also known as carenet, is a non-denominational ministry which serves as a central location to provide relief for those in crisis in macon county. When help from other agencies is either unavailable or insufficient, carenet provides food and limited financial assistance with other necessities such as prescriptions. Macon county care network distributed over 480,000 pounds of food to 5,934 families through the following programs and services provided to families in need, here in macon county: carenet food pantry, soup cafe and backpack program. Through a combination of the the generous donations of both our community as well as the various partnerships with local grocers to provide food donations on a consistent basis, our food pantry received approximately 203,152 pounds of food.
a collaboration with student services for macon county schools and carenet to provide food (in lunch sacks) for identified children and their siblings. Children involved with this program are provided food to take home over the weekend; often times the only nutritional sustenance they have at home until returning to school on monday.
