Mission: The mission of My Friends Place (MFP) is to assist and inspire homeless youth to build self-sufficient lives. Founded in 1988, MFP began as a volunteer-led, mobile meal program that distributed sack lunches to homeless youth in Hollywood. Today, MFP has grown to become the largest and most frequently visited drop-in center for homeless youth in Southern California and is the only organization serving homeless youth ages 12 to 25 and their children open seven days per week in Hollywood. The majority of MFPs clients originate in Los Angeles County, but we see young people from all over California, the United States and from international destinations. Our primary goal is to lower traditional barriers to service and provide homeless youth the opportunity to improve psychological, intellectual, and physical capacity to reach their potential.
Programs: Safe haven - provides shelter during the day as well as emergency services such as food, showers, hygiene supplies, clothing, transportation and communication tools. These emergency necessities alleviate the demands of survival that often distract youth from engaging in educational or health-related activities.
transformative education - individual sessions and group activities deisgned to allow youth to learn to thrive in structure, accept individualized attention, collaborate with peers and explore their interests as a way to regain self-esteem. Upon establishing rapport with the youth, staff make referrals to more intensive therapeutic services.
health and well being - provides youth with clinically and culturally appropriate medical, health and mental health services.
