Mission: Lowcountry aquatic project swimming is a swimming initiative whose purpose/mission is to save lives by teaching life saving swimming skills to kindergarten and first grade students in the charleston, sc area.
Programs: Lowcountry aquatic project swimming (laps) provides swimming instruction for kindergarten and first grade children. During 2017, 1,950 children participated in the program. There were 635 children 5 years of age and under and 1,315 children 6-8 years old. Of the 1,950 children instructed 93% were african american, 5% hispanic, and 2% other. Instruction is provided at martin luther king pool in charleston, sc and the danny jones pool in north charleston, sc. During the year there are 112 days of instruction at each pool, 160 hours per week for 28 weeks.
