There something wonderfully moving and marvelously American about this remarkable veteran-founded non-profit organization known as the Louisville Naval Museum, Inc. How it is an army veteran and an air force veteran living in the Ohio River Valley decided to rescue USS LING, a neglected 311' World War II submarine in Hackensack, NJ, and bring it to Jeffersonville, IN still mystifies me. And yet, there's no denying Lewis Palmer, Mark Gotten and the scores of others taking part in this ambitious project are "bringing good things to life" and succeeded in stabilizing the vessel months ahead of expectations. The LNM folks have a vision, an optimism and a purity of heart that is all too rare these days, and I didn't hesitate to want to align myself with them. I want to live in the kind of world and community they see up ahead of us and are so busily working to bring about.
