Mission: The Lotus Life Foundation aims to empower the lives of children with disabilities in rural India through medical intervention and education. Ultimately, our goal is to integrate these children into society and take a strong step towards eradicating the stigma associated with disability in rural India.
Results: To date, we have successfully spread our mission by creating two college chapters, at the University of California, Riverside and the Johns Hopkins University. We also have a research and design team which is currently working on developing a sustainable gait trainer for our patients in India. We also successfully raised $5,000 dollars for our Putting Rural India in Motion Campaign, to provide 50 wheelchairs and cerebral palsy chairs to our patients in India. In addition, our Orthotic Device Workshop for our LLF Himalayas Project has been successfully running for over a year.
Target demographics: Physically and Mentally Disabled Children
Geographic areas served: India
Programs: We provide volunteer training workshops to develop assistive devices in partnership with CORD USA, in Sidhbari, India. We also have a school for the physically and mentally disabled in Gujarat, India, where we take in children whose families have either abandoned or cannot afford to take care of them. These children are provided with the basic necessities of food, shelter, health, and education.
