Mission: Laeps mission is to work as a collaborative partner in high-poverty communities to foster great schools that support the personal and academic success of children and youth from birth through high school. Laep is an innovative leader in school reform, known for proven, effective programs and responsible collaboration. Laeps focus, from birth through high school, is to produce college- and career-ready graduates. Laep works in high-poverty, multicultural communities across los angeles county, from the northeast san fernando valley to east and south los angeles. Annually, laep impacts more than 1,000 educators and 39,000 students plus their families in communities across los angeles county. Programs: Transform schoolslos angeles education partnership (laep) helps students, parents, teachers, schools and the community build a continuum of support for students to promote college- and career-readiness for students. Laeps transform schools initiative ensures students graduate ready for college and career by partnering to implement humanitas interdisciplinary common core instruction, teacher collaboration, and the community schools model. Laep supports partners and networks across la unified which enroll more than 16,000 students with 655 teachers in 32 schools on 19 lausd campuses. Nine of laeps partner schools are teacher-led pilot schools, which have charter-like autonomies. Our partner schools feature rigorous academics and career themes that engage students with real-world learning. Laeps professional development is grounded in inquiry and reflection, participant-driven, encourages sharing knowledge through coaching and across educator networks to foster rigor and high-performance. Our model seeks to produce self-directed persons with the capacity for high performance, both independently and as members of the community. Laeps professional development improves the knowledge, instructional skills and methods of teachers in all the core academic subjects. We engage teachers in using data to address the individual learning needs of students and further the instructional mission of the school. Teachers collaborate to develop formative and summative assessments that improve the quality of teaching and learning. Laep's outside evaluator reported that in the three years from 2011-12 to 2013-14, laep partner schools showed growth on 14 of the 15 indicators of student achievement and school performance we are tracking. Also, the positive results on 6 of 12 indicators from our pilot partner schools were statistically significant in comparison to similar students at comparable lausd schools. Pilot schools are small schools with charter-like autonomies from lausd in staffing, governance and budget.
early childhood initiative laeps early childhood initiative promotes healthy development of young children, builds parents capacity to prepare their children for school success, and readies elementary schools for their arrival. More than 170 children ages 0 to 3 plus parents participate annually. Our holistic approach eliminates barriers to success and teaches parents to be their childs first teacher.
