I personally have competed in LACSEF for 2 years now, and each year I learn and grow so much. Each year, there are so many skilled and kind judges that give so much advice on how to improve your project. Not only that, but the organization provides so many opportunities and individuals that really care about the students competing, and give us advice on how to become better scientists and engineers. Also having the opportunity to meet other students that are super passionate about science was very exciting.
Through my research class in high school, I was so lucky to be able to attend the LACSEF! Our school mainly focuses on science and medicine, so I was delighted when the LACSEF had a computer science category. The fair was held in Shrine Auditorium, which is famous for holding the Emmy Awards, so the auditorium was super beautiful! Everyone who attended LACSEF inspired me because of their creative project ideas such as detecting whether aliens exist according to AI models, or building more sustainable concrete. LACSEF is a great way to meet similar minded people who love to ponder on seemingly obvious scientific questions.
I had participated in Los Angeles County Science and Engineering Fair from 6th to 11th grade, and I can confidently say that the experiences I gained from this fair played a key role in helping me find and define my passions. More specifically, the vast range of topics the LACSEF introduced me too, from the ways we can identify a single mutation in our DNA, to the steps needed to create tools to identify exoplanets in our universe, the LACSEF had allowed me to explore every nook and cranny of the term STEM. This opportunity inevitably allowed me to realized that I was not someone who enjoyed just a few of this topics (like I may have concluded if I was not given an opportunity to explore these various topics) but someone who is passionate about exploring novel and ever growing fields in any subject. That is why I am now majoring in statistics, giving me the tools to analyze and create tools to explore any field.
This Nonprofit science fair greatly helped my understanding of science in a constructive way. I also gained interview experience with this organization which is sure to help me in the future with job applications. All in all, I recommend this science fair organization and truly wish for more people to enter in it.

Hi, I participated in the LACSEF when I was in sixth grade. It is one of the most memorable moments of my life, as, during COVID, my family and I sat in front of the TV, eagerly awaiting results, as my name was called out for first place. This event taught me so much in my early age that remains useful for my whole life. I learned time management, public speaking, and organization. This event taught me that working hard will always pay off. LACSEF is an event that helps the next talents of California make themselves visible, promoting an even stronger future of American scientists and engineers!
I took part in the LACSEF when I was in 6th grade in 2022 and won the second place in engineering category! It was such an amazing event hosted in a beautiful hall. I will never forget it! To get ready for the fair, I did research, built models, interviewed an engineer to improve my models, learned about California transportation system, and worked on my presentation skills before I became confident to present my project. Thank you, LACSEF staff and volunteers for giving students opportunities to excel.

I am a raising junior and I have participated in LACSEF since my 6th grade. This experience has tremendously shaped my thoughts and helped me choose my career path. I have won 1st, 2nd and honorable mention from these participations and been selected as a Semifinalist at Broadcom Masters National Science Fair . Irrespective of winning or loosing what I treasure the most is the interaction with judges and experts from the field. I always look forward to the questions asked by the judges. At the 2021 Fair, I was selected to compete at State level where I got selected to participate at the BioGENEius International fair. I can say without any doubt that my participation at LACSEF experience helped me to achieve that. I will always value the interview and presentation skills I have developed over the years from interacting with the judges. I sincerely thank LACSEF committee, judges and volunteers for this opportunity. I highly recommend every student to participate in the fair because the experience you will gain from this will stick with for life.
I was in the L.A County Science Fair in 2020, 2021, and 2022. In 2020 I did not place. In 2021 I got third place in Behavioral Science and then was invited to the state science fair where I was chosen as a finalist. I was then invited to the Broadcom Masters National Science Fair. In 2022, I got third place in Environmental Management and was invited to the state science fair for a second time. I was then once again invited to the Broadcom Masters National Science Fair. I am not stating these accomplishments to show off or brag but rather to tell a story. I had really no interest in science before my science fair experience over the last three years. When I entered the science fair in 2021 I had not expected to place in the fair. By getting these opportunities to display my projects and improve them, I learned my interest and passion towards science. I encourage other kids to really put themselves out there and try something they might not have thought they were good at it. And who knows, they might learn something new along the way.

I was a student who participated in the County Fair in both 2019 and 2020, winning first place in my category in 2020, going on to win a place in the CA state fair among other special awards, and being chosen to participate in Broadcom MASTERS, where I won the Lemelson Award for Invention. This was a superb experience and I would highly recommend every child to take a stab at the Science Fair, because it is an experience that opens your eyes to the realm of science. I learned a lot about myself and the world around me simply by listening to others’ projects and conducting my own research, along with building my confidence having to present in front of titans of the scientific world. It was a transformative experience that I would wish upon any other teen with an interest in STEM.
