I recently adopted a wonderful dog from looking glass rescue. They are a wonderful rescue organization that took care of every detail that was needed to get my fur baby here from Texas. I would highly recommend this rescue
Adopted a dog that needed lots of care. They were very supportive and helpful, during the entire process. My wife was very impressed, so she decided to be a volunteer to help other families that wanted to adopt a pet !!!
Looking Glass is the best rescue I've ever had the pleasure of working with!! I've interacted and dealt with plenty of shelters and rescues alike for ten years and not any care for the animals they save as well and thoroughly as Looking Glass. They set each animal up for success! :-)

love working with them!! very professional and love all their rescues like their own dog. one of the few rescues i foster for because they all way put the animals first before anything else even if it's their last dollar!
My daughter and I were looking for a support animal. It was important to us that the animal was a rescue. We logged onto Adopt A Pet and found the amazing site Looking Glass Animal Rescue. The agency lists in depth details about their rescue animals. We found our Shasta girl, a beautiful pit bull terrier mix. She jumped out at us because LG listed her abilities to comfort her humans and other animals alike. Shasta was a perfect match! The process to adopt was so simple thanks to the staff at Looking Glass. Any questions that we had regarding Shasta were quickly answered. Also the transport was smooth. Looking Glass was in constant communication with us. We have only had Shasta for a week now and it seems like she has been a part of our lives forever. We are so in love! Thank you Looking Glass for impacting our lives in the best way!
Looking Glass has the most amazing fosters, adoption-coordinators, staff and owner. They are the most honest, caring, and professional Rescue you can ask for. Just wonderful, sweet dogs and cats who have been socialized and loved by the best fosters anywhere. Highly recommend them.

Looking Glass Animal Rescue is made up of the most passionate, loving, intelligent volunteers and especially the wonderful fosters. Sometimes people are skeptical because lgar doesn’t have a physical shelter in the North; having seen many life changing adoptions successfully happen, I can say this Rescue is the most transparent, professional and caring organization I have ever seen. Highly recommend them.
I had been considering adopting a cat, and had spent some time searching local agencies online when I saw a picture of a beautiful calico. I fell in love and completed the online application. I was really nervous that we wouldn't be considered a good fit, but the next day I was contacted by Stephanie. We set up a phone conversation and it was like speaking with an old friend. Stephanie was so friendly and honest about the process. She checked our references and we were approved! Nola came to us a few weeks later from Louisiana. We were kept up-to-date on her journey, met the transporter as scheduled and brought her home. I was worried how she would transition to her new home - after the journey and leaving her foster family - and she couldn't have been more perfect. She was just as she was described on LGAR's website. She has a great personality, is very chatty and my camera roll is now full of her pictures :) I highly recommend this organization and appreciate the foster families along with all the volunteers who give up their time to find homes for these amazing pets. Stephanie still checks in to see how we are all doing, it's been a great experience, thank you all!!
Not only did I adopt from LGAR, I'm also a volunteer! I have been with this rescue longer than most of my relationships! When you have loving foster families and determined adoption coordinators, you have a recipe for success for every single dog. The time and effort the entire team puts into play are the entire reason that LGAR can rescue as many dogs and cats as it does. This organization truly feels like a family, and that family includes every single animal that has passed through our arms and our hearts.
We adopted our Sophie, dealing with Looking Glass has been a wonderful experience. They explain everything so there’s no confusion. We were fortunate enough to work with Jody, what a caring, giving and loving person. She made us feel like family right away. I recommend them all of the time and I would only adopt from them
Now that we have Abby, we can't even imagine life without her!! We had a wonderful experience with Looking Glass Animal Rescue, Stephanie was so thorough in her quest to find the right family. The process, wasn't as simple as one might imagine.. because everyone at Looking Glass Animal Rescue insures they are finding the right family for every dog. The genuine interest to prevent people who may not be committed to understand what it is to have a life long pet. Abby unfortunately had a pretty rough start in life, and we are doing everything humanly possible to give her the best life! She is so happy, and we are so happy, she is and will be our forever friend! THANK YOU LOOKING GLASS ANIMAL RESCUE!!!!!
I was looking to adopt a dog, but I was struggling to find the right dog with the right fit. I fell into the trap of looking exclusively at the aesthetic of the dog, and I was having a hard time finding the right personality. The agency did an excellent job of helping me not only find a dog that would physically be appropriate for me, but also socially be a good match as I was a first time dog owner. I am in love with this animal. Though the process of adoption is lengthy, and very thorough, I appreciate why they are is thorough as they are. The guidance I have received both before, and after the adoption is exceptional.
We adopted our sweet and playful puppy from LGAR and are so glad we did! She has brought much needed companionship to our anxious older dog and enriched our lives as well.
The adoption process is very thorough and everyone seems to truly care about the animals and making sure whomever you decide to adopt is a good fit for both you and the animal.
I highly recommend Looking Glass Animal Rescue. The adoption process is straightforward and the team is extremely kind and professional. I submitted a short on-line application to describe our family and what would be a good fit. Within a couple days LGAR reached out to schedule an interview which lasted about 1 hour. Within a few days were were sent pictures of our beloved Lucy! She is the perfect addition to our family! LGAR arranged the pickup. The foster parents were fabulous too! They continue to check in with us - a year later. They gave us toys and a bed and all of her medical paperwork. We truly could not have had a better experience. You can't go wrong adopting with Looking Glass Animal Rescue!
Our family rescued a very energetic puppy through Looking Glass Animal Rescue in Ridgefield, CT, earlier this year. All the people we dealt with there were superb. They delivered our Beagle Mix, Teddy, as promised and have been supportive ever since.
I mentioned Teddy is energetic. That's an
understatement - this boy can go. We put him through a nearby training program and he did well.
Teddy is a little anxious, so even after that training he has continued with some destructive chewing.
Looking Glass stepped up to help offset the cost of a special in-home trainer. That training is going well and Teddy has really benefited from it. So have we!
I would recommend Looking Glass Animal Rescue to anyone looking to rescue a pet and I most certainly feel they are deserving of special recognition.
I was not really sure I was ready for a new dog yet as I was still grieving the loss of not only my father, but my dog of 10 years as well. I lost them both within 1 month of each other, both unexpected. I started looking just to look and my friend recommended Looking glass. Well I saw a beautiful dog named Frank. Which incidentally was my dads name. Hum I thought. After reading the description of him and his personality he may have been my dad reincarnated! Long story short, I fell in love with him. His story was sad but what made him so special was he went right into foster care under Looking Glass. He needed a few surgeries for a broken bone but he is just fine now. His foster mom communicated with me regularly as did the staff from Looking glass. It was incredible how through volunteers we were able to have him delivered to my home city and he arrived with love from an amazing driver who somehow kept all these animals safe and happy!! Frank has grown from 45 pounds to now 85 pounds and he is the biggest ball of love I could have hoped for. Anytime I need anything or have questions someone from Looking glass answers immediately. Records were sent from his surgery as well as when the cared for him initially. I have rescued dogs before but the personal attention provided by this group is amazing. They take the time to make sure the dog is the right fit for your family. The foster parents are amazing. Frank arrived house trained and kind. I couldn’t be happier.
We adopted two kittens from Looking Glass and the whole process was great! Our local liaison, Diana, was so incredibly kind and responsive about every step of the process. When we went to pick up our cats, we were so touched by the driver, Mr Tim, who volunteered his time to drive across the country, giving animals a new home! I could tell that our cats were treated with love every step of the way, because they arrived so happy and had nearly no transition to our household of kids, cats and dogs. I’ve enjoyed keeping in touch with their “foster mother” from LA, who let me know information to help support them and we enjoy sending photos to her, so she can see how they are doing. I would absolutely work with Looking Glass again the next time we are looking to adopt a pet!
We highly recommend this rescue group to anyone looking to provide a loving home for a furry friend. Their dedication to finding loving homes for these animals is truly heartwarming and commendable. Over the past three years, we slowly lost our original rescue pack of four and desperately wanted to adopt again. We had been looking since March for the perfect match and had an amazing experience with this animal rescue and Stephanie. Their dedication to saving and caring for animals is truly commendable. The staff is not only knowledgeable but compassionate and their priority is saving these lovely souls. We adopted a wonderful pet from them, and the process was smooth, extremely efficient, and well-organized. Also, when talking about good people, we are incredibly THANKFUL for the wonderful people (Amy & Garrett) who fostered our forever pooch. Their kindness and care made a significant difference in our dog’s life, we will forever be grateful for their selflessness – there will never be enough Thank you’s! Thank you again to Looking Glass Animal Rescue and we will be adopting again! Marissa and Stephen
After given the green light to work from home, my husband and I adopted our first ever puppy from LGAR. Because we have 2 cats it was important to us that the puppy had been fostered with cats. Many thanks to Stephanie whose support and commitment made it all possible. Thanks also to the foster parents who began the crate training process and taught Perdida (now Bandida) basic commands. She brings us so much joy every single day!
We decided to rescue a dog this past spring as our older dog had passed away the prior October. After searching through Petfinder , we finally found one that we thought would be a good match for our 6 year old dog “Mikey”. We worked with Looking Glass Rescue and Stephanie Winus, our contact, to get her here. After a delay (she had to be treated for worms, then a full transport), she finally arrived! She’s a perfect fit for our family; full of energy, loves to play and snuggle with us and Mikey, loves her walks, is a great eater! When she arrived she weighed 11 pounds. 5 months later she’s at 25!! Patty is wonderful! Thanks to Stephanie for her patience working with us. Patty came all the way from Louisiana to upstate New York and Stephanie stayed in constant contact with us while we waited for her arrival. Thank you!
We rescued Jazzy in January 2023 as our third rescue dog in the past 35 years. The experience of adoption was fairly easy working with Stephanie and the foster family Doug and Jenna. The exciting phase happened within 5 minutes of when we got Jazzy home as she slithered under a gap in the fence and for seven hours she was loose. While she kept making her way back to our house (which was amazing as she was not at all familiar with the area) she would not come to us as she did not know or trust us at that early point. We called Doug who without hesitation drove 90 miles (each way) to come to try and help us get Jazzy back. At 10pm on a Saturday night Doug and Jenna arrived and minutes after calling Jazzy she emerged from the back woods and came right away to them as she knew and trusted Doug and Jenna. Absolutely an amazing show of compassion and heart by two extremely dedicated and dog loving foster people. Jazzy has developed into a loving trusting and member of our family, full of life and snuggles. Thank you to Looking Glass and Doug/Jenna for helping us find our Jazzy.
I have rescued 2 dogs over the past few years from looking glass and they have been absolutely phenomenal. They really care about the animals they rescue and check in even after adoption. Would highly recommend them if you are looking to rescue.
I absolutely love this rescue organization... from rescue, to care, Forster then forever homes!! Looking Glass Animal Rescue has heart .... and walks you through every step. They check to make sure their rescues are safely placed! I adopted two dogs and they are my best friends.... just when I needed them most!
The experience was awesome! They helped us find the perfect dog that fit our family. They asked us a few questions to match us with a list of potential dogs. They showed us video's about the dogs and their history. We found the best fit and we could not be any happier. We have had our fur baby for over a year now and would recommend them to anyone looking for the perfect pet
We adopted our sweet girl from the Looking Glass Animal Rescue and the whole process was seamless. The application process was easy and as well as the phone interview/questions. We picked our girl up from the foster. We are so thankful for her she has been wonderful with our children. I would absolutely adopted through them again.
We adopted our dog gretel thru them and they were just great. We could tell that volunteers really believed in mission
I could not be more pleased with this amazing group of dedicated rescuers! I am so impressed with their professionalism. I have been working with Beth and Christi to adopt Delilah, who was saved from an awful cruelty case. One of the things that I am so impressed with is how thorough and efficient Beth has been to work with! She was great about telling me each step that I need to take, and she did an excellent job guiding me through the entire process. Delilah’s foster mom, Christi, has been so incredibly helpful. She is willing to answer all of my questions over the phone. The communication with both Beth and Christi has been outstanding. Looking Glass Animal Rescue is caring, organized, professional, thorough, and compassionate. Best adoption group to work with for anyone who wants to adopt!!
We started our search on a general website and inquired about our first puppy through Looking Glass Rescue. We thought we had missed out on him but a couple of weeks later he was back up for adoption and Stephanie quickly got our paperwork in and secured our fur baby for us! She was wonderful to work with. The whole agency is amazing. Everything was made very easy to navigate. From the paperwork, the interview, to the transport, and meeting up to bring Milo home. He was a sweet, happy puppy when we got him. And he has grown to be more of all of that. He really is the goodest boy . Thank you so much for all that you do! We couldn't be happier with the whole experience.
I was referred by a friend and so happy she did! Communication was amazing even during our pups journey north, a reasonable drive and one great dog! Stephanie was wonderful to work with.
Our Experience with LGAR was amazing Stephanie, was very helpful and guided us through the adoption process. Also kept my wife and I updated with everything.
Lola is the love of my life and the best decision I have ever made in my life.
I Highly recommend Looking Glass animal rescue!! :)

I have adopted two pups through Looking Glass Animal Rescue, both saved from certain death, both requiring extensive care and vetting prior to arrival in the northeast, all done by LGAR without a second thought to the financial hardship they would bear in doing so.
I am also a volunteer, dedicated to helping this organization achieve their goal of a world where no family pet is euthanized due to lack of a home - a monumental challenge these days. I have never met a more dedicated crew of people, loving, caring and compassionate, all looking for just the right home for every single animal placed. The work that goes into this for them is 24/7 with so many ups and downs. In the end, the goal is to place pets with the most loving, compassionate families who will treasure them forever. Looking Glass Animal Rescue accomplishes this every day for so many. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to add a furry family member.
I have been a volunteer for all kinds of organizations for more than 25 years, initially benefiting children and families. But, I've always had a passion for animals, and have experience adopting elsewhere. The quality and dedication of this group is second to none.
We have adopted two puppies from Looking Glass within two years of each other. Looking Glass was excellent to deal with, and our puppies were transported from Louisiana within a timely manner. Looking Glass stayed in touch with us throughout the process, notifying us when the transport would be on the road from Louisiana and the progress made on the trip up. After the adoption, Looking Glass has provided answers to questions I had in a supportive, timely manner. Our puppies are now 1 y.o. and 3 y.o. and have been excellent dogs for our family as well as excellent brothers to each other. We are very grateful Looking Glass rescues animals that need homes.
This rescue cares about the animals that it takes care of. If it wasn't for looking glass rescue Lola would not be alive, they saved her the night before she was scheduled to be euthanized. Looking glass rescue has an amazing staff, they are wonderful to work with.
I reached out to this group as a nervous potential foster in March of 2022. I was given the fella in the back of the truck below, fresh out of my local animal control. Nearly 6 months later, after extensive heartworm treatment, an overdue neuter, and many warm soapy baths LGAR then helped him find his forever home. This definitely would not have been possible without the network they’ve created and the support they’ve provided all of us down here. Marco might not have been able to say it out loud, but his great big smile makes it pretty clear: THANK YOU LGAR.
I lost a pup suddenly. I was badly broken. LGAR forwarded a photo of a surrendered hound pup. I was not ready, but I needed him.
He has healed me. I don’t know where I’d be without my Guppy.
They never turn their back on any dog! They are a small organization but they have the biggest heart and the most loyal supporters. They know we are always there for them because they are always there for every dog that needs them. No matter how hard the rescue road becomes they face all the challenges with a can-do attitude! They will always have my support!
Looking Glass is a top notch rescue!!! We adopted our dog Vivvy from Looking Glass Animal Rescue. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. We adopted during Covid lockdown which complicated things but Looking Glass did all they could to make it a smooth process. Great communication from the time of application all the way through to when we brought Vivvy home. We could not be happier! Thanks to all the volunteers at LGAR. Vivvy is such a huge part of our lives and we have you to thank for that. Forever grateful!!!
I have fostered several dogs, kittens and a cat I needed up adopting, the organization has been awesome to work with. Caring individuals and tireless advocates for the many voiceless animals.

Several years ago I was trying to rescue and foster a puppy scheduled to be euthanized. Looking Glass Rescue was the only rescue of several I contacted able/willing to pull this puppy on very short notice. In the matter of a day over email (as I live and work in another state) approved my application and transported the puppy to me. I will always be eternally grateful to LGAR would helping me to give this puppy a second chance.
I have fostered two dogs for LGAR and I love working with them. They are very cooperative and helpful. My sister ended up adopting one of the dogs and she is adjusting well and we are so thankful for all that LGAR does to get these animals out of their horrible circumstances and into great homes.
I rescued a puppy from Looking Glass back in April and cannot say enough good things about this rescue. It is clear they go above and beyond and really care about every single animal. I tell everyone I know who is looking to rescue their next dog or cat about Looking Glass.
I adopted my Yorkie mix six years ago from Looking Glass and had a positive experience would adopt from them again in a heartbeat. They take the time and full responsibility for the pet and continue to follow the pet and assist you if needed. Interviews were done with me ,references I gave them were checked and vet references were checked.
Everyone behind Looking Glass Animal Rescue are amazing people. The miles and heart put in to saving these animals is absolutely amazing. They go above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to saving an injured, abused and neglected animals. The people themselves are wonderful, helpfuland very nice when it comes to speaking with them about adopting one of their cats or dogs. Whenever anybody asks me where I got my dogs I say I adopted them from a great rescue called Looking Glass Animal Rescue. I have fostered kitty and dogs for years.
I reached out to many organizations to become a foster to take dogs on the at risk list for New York City shelters. Looking Glass was the first to respond, guided me through their process, and connected me with dogs who would thrive in our foster care with our resident dogs. They are very professional and passionate. I have fostered for them, adopted from them, and have been a supporter for years. They are an incredible nonprofit with a founder who inspires and is a natural leader.
I just got my second dog The Luke from LGAR. They are some hardworking and fantastic folks and we are so thankful for them.
This rescue does great things for dogs and cats everywhere. They spare no expense and always follow through for their babies to find forever homes!
LGAR is serious and passionate about saving lives. The team is dedicated and determined. I fostered dogs thru LGAR and it was immediately clear that Jody made each dog (and cat) a priority. Health issues were managed, behavior issues were trained - everything was done to make sure that every placement was headed for nothing less than a lifetime.
Me and my family have been part of LGAR a few years now. We have fostered dogs of different ages that were rescued from the south. Ultimately the dogs had a wonderful positive change to their life. Our experience has been excellent!!
Please continue your good work though many times it may feel exhausting. Dogs need you and Thank You!!
My name is Noel Miles and this is my story. Almost 2 years ago. My husband and I wanted our first animal together. So we met a awesome women named Laura Berry who fosters animals through the looking glass animal rescue. We went over to her house and meet our cat Kelli. Recently i have been seeing animals that need homes whether temporary or permitant. My husband and I started fostering. We love it. We are so involved in this organization. Please consider adopting from them. The entire team is awesome!!
Jodi and her team are wonderful people doing amazing things by saving as many fur babies as they possibly can . Thank you for our special boy Spencer and our princess violet!
We adopted our beloved dog, Chester a year ago. Looking Glass Animal Rescue was helpful every step of the way. They are a kind, and caring rescue that does great work.
We have adopted one of our dogs from LGAR and have fostered one (soon to be 2). What I can say is this rescue is the real deal: dependable, communicative, reputable, and they truly care about each and every animal they save.
We can’t thank LGAR enough! Our family was looking to add a furry member to our family and LGAR worked with us to identify the perfect fit. Thank you!
This is a shoutout to Looking Glass Rescue.
I am continually impressed by the amazing and wonderful job they do with the most downtrodden, needy and sorrowful animals. The population served by Looking Glass does, of course, include many "cute" and placeable pets. Those who are not are worked with and cared for by the staff and fosters and are allowed to become the wonderful pets that they had the potential to be. From an agressive street dog, who had been fought and bred too many times, they released "Persephone" who, although there are medical issues resulting from her abuse, is a sweet and loving girl who fits in well in her new home. There is" Austin", who came in emaciated and hairless and terrified and who is now a fuzzy cutie who lives to please. "Rudy" seemed hopeless, so terrified that no one could touch him. After time with Looking Glass, he is a sweet and mellow boy who is so very happy in his adoptive home.
Having worked with Looking Glass for several years, I have personally, rotated many medically compromised Looking Glass animals through my animal hospital. After we fixed their bodies, Looking Glass fixed their hearts and souls. I am proud to be associated with this rescue and I am grateful for the beautiful things they do each and every day.

I first came across LGAR in July 2018 when they were searching for fosters in my area. I signed on to fosters cats, and went through a very thorough background check before coming on board. I fostered 3 cats over the next year. As a foster I agreed to provide food for the cats and attend any vet appointments as necessary. I was also asked to attend any adoption events and to try and be available for potential adopters to visit or meet. This was all spelled out before signing on as a foster.
LGAR was always responsive to any calls or emails I sent, quickly resolving any issues that arose. I adopted my last foster, a kitten that LGAR rescued who was found dumped on the road, blind and suffering from infection. They paid for her to have surgery done at a specialist to give her some of her eyesight back. We later found out she is deaf, which there is no current remedy for. Other rescues would have overlooked her as she was so sickly. But LGAR took a chance and pulled her, and she's now a 2.5 year old sassy spitfire who has some vision thanks to LGAR.
At some point during my fostering I signed on to become an application processor. This consisted of calling potential adoptees, their references, vets etc to ensure the animals were going to the best homes possible. It is a very in depth process, no corners are cut. Some people become impatient with these processes but it's refreshing to see a rescue stick to it's principles.
I recommend LGAR to everyone who is looking for a new pet. And if you're looking for some volunteer work and have some extra time, definitely consider them as well.

I started as a foster for this amazing rescue. The process to become a foster was rigorous (rightly so) but also super easy. I then adopted one of my fosters from them, and that was simple too. Their process is easy, they answer all your questions and even check in on the animals/families after the fact. These guy rock!
Words cannot express how grateful I am for the people behind the scenes at Looking Glass animal rescue. I'm in a wheelchair and was very lonely for 7 years until looking glass animal rescue came along and donated a rescue to me. That dog is now Coco, who by the way is the best dog in the whole world . Words could not express how grateful I am for this organization. I've seen the countless hours put in across all areas of this organization, from social media to different events around town. Looking glass animal rescue is so much more. We even have a page that they created just for people that have adopted, and I personally like staying in touch with other owners who've seemed to have the same experience that I did.

Last year looking Glass animal rescue stepped up to the plate and gave me a pug for free. I had another agency that I was working with to get a service dog and when they got a new trainer the trainer didn't like that I was on the fifth floor of my apartment. So after a year and a half a working with them they denied me unless I moved within one month. looking Glass animal rescue stepped up to the plate and offered me pick of the litter open set of pugs coming up from Texas. I live in my bed most all the time and when I'm able to I get up in my wheelchair and go for a ride. Coco my new emotional support dog is right there leading the way like a hood ornament on my lap. I can't say enough good things about this organization and they work very hard to do the right thing. The president went down to the Bronx to help find Justice for a dog that was tied up to a telephone pole and left beaten. She was able to follow it through until she got Justice. Please consider this nonprofit as exceptional because they truly are exceptional. The lady that offered me my dog is now having issues with her child at home and serious health issues. It would mean so much to this organization to be picked. They truly work extremely hard for these living animals.
I adopted my pup from LGAR, and it was the absolute best experience. The process went quickly and smoothly. They held my hand through the whole process, and were there anytime, day or night, to answer any and all of my questions. It’s been almost 2 months since my pup Rick (now Freddie)came home to me, and they are still available to answer questions any time I need them. It is like my pup became part of my family, and my family became part of the LGAR family. They are wonderful!!❤️
This is a remote animal rescue organization. They do NOT spay or neuter the pets, in spite of the fact their website states otherwise. You can not see recent photos or speak with a foster family. Their pets are actually not fostered, but rather in a shelter. Basically, you are paying upwards of $500 for a stray. If you volunteer to foster, they charge you the FULL adoption fee in advance prior to meeting the pet. This is because there is no place to "return" a foster. They have no physical location and take payment only via pay pal. They have you pick up your pet on a roadside rest stop. All the positive reviews posted are by either friends or volunteers. Check their references & buyer beware!!!! There are thousands of authentic and reputable organizations for pet adoption. Think twice before going thru this one.

We are so sorry you feel this way. Let me help clear things up a bit. Our dogs are all in homes with families, however they do originate from some of the most high kill shelters in the country. Upon pull, animals are immediately moved to a quarantine in the home given that animals in shelters are exposed to illness and we can't be too careful. After cleared, they live, play, and socialize as normal. Our reputation precedes us which is why we receive adoption applications immediately once we post our new rescues. Many adopters wish to pick up direct from transport as they are too excited to wait. We offer foster first but if they are qualified, why withhold a forever home? Altering is a given however COVID caused delays and shutdowns wreaked havoc on our normal course. We therefore take refundable deposits to ensure adopters follow thru AT OUR EXPENSE once an appointment can be secured. If you share your actual name, we can discuss like adults. We love feedback!
We had such a wonderful experience with Looking Glass. They got back to us immediately after we inquired about rescuing one of their dogs. Diane talked to me extensively on the phone to see what my family was looking for in a dog and what our life looked like day to day. By the time we were ready to pick up our puppy, we felt confident from all of our conversations that she would be a great fit for our family. They have been there to help throughout the whole process to answer questions and make sure everything was going smoothly, including after we had the dog home. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a caring and experienced rescue place.
I started as a foster with Looking Glass Animal Rescue. The dog that we fostered had some serious medical problems. She needed multiple extensive and expensive surgeries. Looking Glass animal rescue made sure that Rosie received every single bit of care that she needed. While Rosie was still In treatment I decided to join LGAR as a volunteer. Never looked back. Still with LGAR after 5 years!!
I have never met a more dedicated crew of people, loving, caring and compassionate, all looking for just the right home for every single animal placed. I have been a volunteer for all kinds of organizations for more than 25 years, initially benefiting children and families. But, I've always had a passion for animals as well. With my kids gone I turned my volunteer efforts to the incredible number of animals needing homes through Looking Glass. The dedication of this group is second to none.
In December we rescued our little baby. I was looking for a new addition as we had just moved homes and
I promised my children we would look into puppies. LGAR made the adoption
Process so easy and smooth. The team carved out time morning and night to answer any questions I had regarding the process.I would honestly recommend LGAR to anyone who is looking to adopt.
I am a volunteer with Looking Glass Animal Rescue. This organization is top notch. I have never worked with a more compassionate and dedicated group of people. I am proud to be a part of this rescue. So many animals have been placed in amazing homes thanks to Looking Glass. They respond to every person who applies to adopt. In my own experience this is very rare in a rescue group staffed by volunteers. Overall an amazing group.
We adopted a dog from LGAR and within the first week, realized that he was very sick and declining fast. I reached out to the shelter hoping for some help with the medical bills that were piling up and they eagerly picked up the tab, paid for his hospital stay, and were there to help every step of the way. Today, we have a healthy pup who is our entire world. I cannot say enough good things about this rescue, the people who run it, and the community they have created. I love keeping up with the success stories and seeing all the great work they do daily. Thank you for helping us and our little boy. You guys are amazing.
Looking Glass Animal Rescue continues to impress and inspire me! There is no case too severe and no case too simplistic for them. If there is an animal in need, Looking Glass is there! Words can not describe the amount of passion this rescue has! It has been an absolute pleasure to work with them and foster their beautiful pack. They truly stand by their mission statement and love what they do. This rescue is a family and community of animal lovers. They are heroes and animal advocates who rarely receive the recognition they deserve, but despite this they work tirelessly to save those in need!

Looking Glass Rescue is without question one of the most impressive rescues I have ever worked with! Their passion is reflected in their successful activism. I was first introduced to them when they were able to rescue a misunderstood dog in my town that was scheduled to be euthanized, they gave him a chance when no one else would and were even able to rehabiliate him. I was so impressed that I wanted to thank them by becoming a foster through their organization. Now I am the proud foster mom of Luna! She is just as amazing as the recuse who saved her life! I can't say enough great things about Looking Glass and the important work they do!
This organization left dogs to die in a boarding warehouse in Utica. The dogs lived in filthy cages and ate food mixed with their own feces. They were transferred to this place after leaving Forever Home Rehabilitation Center another terrible "board and train" facility. The group would never say where the dogs went after Utica got busted. With their track record, probably another bad boarding facility where they live forgotten while the rescue pockets donations. They dont deserve an award. I wish I could give no stars.
I foster for this amazing rescue, they take wonderful care of their dogs, they're a pleasure to work with and always available for help.
I was looking for a shelter to foster dogs and LGAR was so wonderful to work with. Everyone I spoke to was so kind, thorough with checks (which I greatly appreciate so that animals go to the right homes) and very quick to respond. I know that they want to save as many dogs as they can while finding them safe and loving homes. It has been such a pleasure fostering a dog through LGAR and I hope to continue to foster and find these loving dogs forever homes.
I have been fostering for close to 10 years and although I don't have anything bad to say of anyone who rescues, the amount of good I have to say for Looking Glass animal rescue actually overwhelms me. The immediate response when I have a question about one of my fosters is like nothing I've ever experienced. They go to great lengths, without thought of financial stress, to make sure an animals needs are met and they feel safe happy and loved. Our third Foster through them was a medical anomaly. Turned out to be heartworm positive and had complications that caused him stay at the vet for 17 days. Sadly that beautiful dog needed to be put down because it was best for him but they did absolutely everything, above & beyond to make sure that that dog was given an incredible chance to have a beautiful life. Right now we have a mom who we thought had a false pregnancy, it turned out to be a C-section with 11 puppies. First of all it was an emergency C-section at a very expensive vet. Never did they make me feel like they were stressed about it or worried, they just told me go. then when I got home they were on the phone with me till 3 a.m. guiding me through a process that I was scared of because the puppies were so little. Each day they surprised me, each day my faith in humanity is restored. I have never worked with a more incredible group of humans in my life and I am honored to be a part of Looking Glass animal rescue.
I fostered a dog that I eventually adopted. Everyone, Jodi, Judi at LGAR
Are wonderful caring people who always go and always give just more to insure the best in every situation
Its their love and dedication to the cause of animals that makes them stand out
I recently joined the fostering team for LGAR. I was blown away by the support they offered us to foster. It made fostering so much easier. Anytime I had a question, I received an answer within the hour.
I also love the fact that they thoroughly checked us out to make sure we were right for the animals , which the same process if you want to adopt.
Animal welfare is their priority ! If you are interested in either adopting or fostering this is the rescue to use.
Always putting animals before themselves. I have been lucky enough to get to know a great group of people who truly care. From fostering to adopting I just knew I had to be a part of this amazing rescue!
I have volunteered with LGAR for 2 years now. The board members are so vested in making a difference for these animals who don't have a voice. Because of their selflessness hundreds of dogs and cats have been saved from NYC acc as well as from other areas. I can't say enough about their devotion. They are truly angels to those im need.
LGAR is the greatest! I have had wonderful experiences fostering for this amazing organization. Professionally run with a lot of love for all the pups and the foster families. The pups are all so supercute too!
I adopted my sweet Shih Tzu Ella from Looking glass Animal rescue. She was a mess when they pulled her from the shelter. By the time I picked her up she was doing so well! They nursed her through a gallbladder surgery and kept her safe and loved. I still send pictures, text and updates to Ella's foster mom. I can't speak highly enough of everyone at Looking Glass rescue!
Looking Glass is an amazing rescue going above and beyond in showing their love for animals and the community ! A wonderful experience adopting recently, every communication was just filled with love and caring for the puppy and support for the foster and adoptive families. I am honored to be a part of this wonderful organization and grateful to have found my pup waiting for me at Looking Glass
I foster for Looking Glass Animal rescue. They are an incredible rescue that strives to be the best they can be and loves helping you to fit the right pet to your home environment!
LGAR helped us adopt our newest family member Scooby they went above and beyond make sure he was going to his forever home.
I have now fostered two dogs for LGAR, and each has been a great experience. They have a solid support team for their fosters, and a huge reach for potential adopters. Their screening process has the best interests of the dogs in mind, which is all that counts.
I adopted Pumpkin in 6/17. She is a dachsund mix, my 1st smaller dog. She was rescued a week before her delivery of 2 pups (1 live and 1 stillborn). She was such a good Mom that she nursed 5 additional pups plus her own. All were named after various pies. Cuter than cute names and pups. I would love to know who comes up with these names.
Pumpkin (Pie) came into my life when the pups were ready to let her go. She is a complete love, She enjoys chewing nylabones, cuddling in my lap and being cozy under her blanket. Outdoor activities involve chasing chickens, wild rabbits, squirrels and turkeys while on a leash of course.
LGAR has been supportive when I needed advice on anything. Their commitment to these animals for life is true and basic to their philosophy. They have earned my respect and I would encourage people to donate so their work can continue.
I donate as often as I am able. Thanks again LGAR for bring Pumpkin into my life.
LGAR is one of the most committed group of people I've come across. They go above and beyond to help animals who would be overlooked by most people. They take on high medical bills and work tirelessly to make sure these animals get the care needed. Whenever I have a question or concern James and Jody are only a phone call away.
Looking Glass Rescue saved a dog named Sasha who had been returned three times to New York's ACC and failed by another rescue. It was looking very bleak for poor Sasha, but Jody and Looking Glass stepped in and rescued her! They got her some much needed training and she went on to be a loved family member in a good home. This rescue steps up when no one else will. I've donated to them several times and I know that the donation goes exactly where it should - to help the animal get a better, happier life.
I have never felt more passionate about a non-profit organization, and what she has done in a little over a year - save the lives of 400 little beings that are in the worst scenarios - physically and emotionally - and are the most vulnerable to being euthanized - is nothing short of amazing. You see, the ACC won't even let Jody adopt the cute, healthy ones - those go to the "regular" rescues. Jody's "pack," as she calls them, are the raggedy-taggedy crew of dogs/cats no one else will take. She sees potential in these adorable outcasts; she cleans them up and polishes them off (often through involved/complicated medical treatments, emotionally therapy classes, grooming, foster-love/recovery) so they can be adoptable and treated with the respect and love they have always deserved. I adopted Donut, a senior poodle who was dumped at the ACC with a breast tumour hanging out of her body that Jody saved. LGAR spent thousands of dollars on Donut's surgery and aftercare. My husband and I nursed Donut through her Hospice period (she lived 6 more happier months), and it changed our lives. I donate to this rescue and plan to volunteer in the coming months.
We adopted Misty 5 months ago. Looking Glass took great care to make sure she was the right fit for our family. James was so helpful in answering questions and advising us as first-time dog owners. Misty was very nervous at first, but she warmed up just as he said she would. She is a sweet and darling creature and we love her so much. I think our family needed her as much as she needed us!
As a follower of the super urgent dogs at NYC ACC, I have reached out to Looking Glass Animal Rescue many times for help getting a tiny, old dog pulled before it is put down. Jodi has never failed to respond! And time and again, when I look to see which rescue has saved a dog, it is LGAR. They do such amazing work!!
Our family adopted Cookie through Looking Glass Rescue just over a year ago. Cookie was blind and had multiple health issues. If it wasn't for their rescue effort, he never would have received the medical support he needed. Once he came to us, they continued to support Cookie and our family. Despite an initial grime prognosis, he has continued to thrive and brought our family so much happiness and love. We are extremely greatful for the work they do not just us but all the animals and families they bring together.
I volunteer for Lookibg Glass Animal Rescue processing applications and fostering dogs. This agency rescues some dogs that would not otherwise be rescued due to medical condition or age. The stories of new beginnings because of the “pack” are heartwarming.
I freely give my time to help them. I am also an adopter!
An amazing, dedicated group of animal rescuers who care deeply for their animals. There is no group more dedicated with the highest level of integrity. Cannot recommend this group higher. Amazing people.
Me & my husband have been involved with LGAR for over a year and a half and the folks at this rescue are the most committed people we've ever known! It's truly about the animals and what's best for their well being that is at the heart of what they do. If you are thinking about supporting or becoming actively involved with a rescue organization you couldn't pick a better one than LGAR!

We are so sorry to hear this. However, posting an anonymous review does make it nearly impossible for us to help and/or verify the accuracy of this statement. We keep very copious notes (including saving all texts/emails) on our clients before and after adoption so I am sure we could review together, if this was brought to our attention, and rectify any concerns. Since Dec. 2015, we have saved more than 2,000 animals and I don't recall ever not being responsive to a clients concerns or needs. In fact, our adoption coordinators proactively follow up extensively, as does our Board, so there is always ample opportunity to discuss issues, if any. In addition, we extend ongoing support through our vets and trainers even after adoption. I am not sure what exactly happened here since you did not reach out nor feel it was important enough to share your name here, but I can assure you we still stand at the ready to assist in any way possible.
