My wife and I recently participated in a workshop that was offered through Look Both Ways. This workshop was fantastic! The instructor, Betsy Cairo, was very knowledgeable and very professional throughout the whole workshop experience. She provided a safe environment to learn about human sexuality and about the stages of development that children go through from the time they are born up through adulthood. Betsy helped provide us with tools for having open and honest conversations with our children about their bodies. With a 9 year old daughter at home, we were really needing to gain more knowledge and confidence for talking to our daughter about changes that are happening to her body. I would love to repeat Betsy's workshop as I know that it would only give me more confidence and the repeat knowledge would only reinforce what I have already learned. I would highly recommend Betsy Cairo and Look Both Ways to any parent who is navigating parenthood!

I'm so proud to be a Coloradoan these days. We are setting the example in efforts to educate youth about their bodies, sexual health, and the responsibilities that go along with it. Providing access to long term birth control has proven to be a very successful venture. Dr. Betsy Cairo and her non-profit, Look Both Ways, are a very important element in these efforts with their commitment to educating parents and youth. The workshops, curriculum, and community involvement are also proving to be extremely valuable and successful in the effort to improve knowledge and responsibility surrounding a topic that has been taboo to discuss for way too long. We so desperately need organizations like this. As with every difficult topic the answer to so many questions, problems, and help for so many people lies in education. Look Both Ways leads the way in these efforts and deserves your support.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Dr Betsy Cairo on a personal and professional level as a graduate student, volunteer, and as a friend. I learned about Look Both Ways through one of Dr Cairo’s University of Northern Colorado graduate courses on comprehensive reproductive health. I enjoyed it immensely and subsequently jumped at the chance to attend one of her seminars as well. Look Both Ways is undoubtedly the most interesting, factual, in-depth, and relevant program for not only today’s youth, but equally important for parents and anyone who has a role in raising children. This program provides a safe place to learn about human sexuality without fear, embarrassment, or judgment, and should be mandatory in every middle and high school in the nation. Well done Dr Cairo.

These dedicated people have been providing much needed information/education to young people, parents, and educators about reproductive responsibility and sexual health for many years. I have read the textbook written for educators and listened to some of the talks given by Betsy Cairo. She knows the subject, having taught at the University of Northern Colorado and worked in the reproductive field in the private sector for many years. And, she knows how to handle the issues that make this such a difficult subject to teach. Helping people avoid emotional and physical trauma around the subject of sexuality is extremely important if we want a healthier future.

Look Both Ways encompasses and provides overall reproductive and developmental health. The educational text, written by the executive director, Dr. Betsy Cairo, is geared towards educating the youth and adolescent populations. However, the text can also be geared towards education for parents. Look Both Ways strives to educate all - from school age to adulthood. All of the people who support and volunteer their time to Look Both Ways are very passionate, and they ensure that our youth population has the proper reproductive education that they deserve.

Look Both Ways has developed an excellent program to provide for reproductive education. The program shows diverse points of view in this area of education with at times volatile perspectives. The program provides scientifically based curriculum for the educators and an excellent text book written specifically to support this program.

I have known Dr. Betsy Cairo for over 20 years. The one word that always comes to mind when I talk about her is passionate. She is devoted to sharing her vast knowledge about reproductive health with both the professional and private sectors. The name of the nonprofit she began years ago says it all: Look Both Ways. This is not an organization that is biased or slanted to a particular set of beliefs or politics. This is an organization that stresses you - the individual - to get all the facts you can about your own reproductive health. Once armed with that knowledge, you can then have confidence in moving forward in your personal life.

If you know Betsy Cairo, you are the better for it. If you don't, that should be on a short list of things you should accomplish.

In my senior year I took Reproductive Health with Betsy Cairo and Mandy Johnson. Quite honestly it was one of the best classes I have taken in High School. It has made the most impact in a practical sense to not only learn about my body but also know about the male body. It has helped me be a more confident women. I was able to talk about birth control and not be afraid of the topic of sex. It was informative, engaging and even fun. I still continue to use the knowledge I gained to inform others. I think high schoolers will benefit from this class.

Look Both Ways (LBW) has made a tremendous impact on my life and my life’s work. Prior to learning about them, I was teaching high school in Loveland, Family & Consumer Sciences, and had always enjoyed teaching the human reproduction unit. I began researching more about it myself to become better informed for my students. I discovered LBW at a 4th of July celebration in 2010, and knew immediately this organization was what I had been looking for. The executive director, Betsy and I discussed the possibility of creating a semester-long course for high school students using the curriculum she created. It took us over 2 years to get to the pilot stage, but we were successful in piloting our class, Reproductive Development, first in the fall of 2012, and again in the fall of 2013. The second time around, Look Both Ways donated Betsy’s textbook to every student in our course. In each semester we taught it, students thoroughly enjoyed the class and found the information relevant to their lives. Most of them said it was the most useful class they had ever taken. Look Both Ways has helped inspire my personal passion to help educate our youth and spread this critical knowledge every chance I get. Now I sit on the board of directors and volunteer my time to help spread awareness about Look Both Ways, as well as educate youth and parents at our free conferences. I believe in this organization and the mission statement it was founded on: “...to improve the lives of youth by imparting the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions about their reproductive health. We aim to inspire educators, empower youth, and promote diversity by providing comprehensive reproductive health curriculum, resources, and training to schools, educators and community groups.”

I went to school and was taught by Mandy Maestas in the Reproductive development class. And I still have the book from that class which I hope I can share with my own 2 children. Look both ways is one of the most educational yet understandable nonprofit organizations.

When I took this class I learned a lot. I like how everything was straight forward. Somethings were heard to see or hear. Like the awful pictures of STD’s and STI’s but its something that every sexually active person should see. You need to know what’s out there and you need to know how to keep yourself safe. And as I learned from Mrs. Johnson never be embarrassed or afraid to ask your partner if they have anything. Better to keep yourself safe. Even after being graduated for almost 5 years and I took this class my senior year I still to this day think about the things I learned in this class!

Look Both Ways promotes comprehensive reproductive health education. Sure, it covers pregnancy prevention, birth control and STIs, but reproductive health involves so much more, including eating disorders, peer pressure, adolescence, bullying. drug abuse, gender, and harassment and consent. The goal is to "educate the educator," which might be a parent, guardian, or teacher. This curriculum needs to be installed in schools, and teachers need to be taught how to teach it. Look Both Ways does all this--and more.

Look both ways is approaching reproductive health in the best way, going to the core and educating the teachers who will have a direct impact on our youth. They have been persistent in their mission and I believe they are making a difference. I hope all teens have access to comprehensive reproductive education so they can have control of their lives and future plans. Thank you for what you do!!

The work that Look Both Ways does to increase knowledge around the very board subject of reproductive by educating youth, parents, and educators is exceptional. To help our youth grow up in the most positive way, having a great roadmap for functional development is a prize. The textbook and classes that Look Both Ways offer is such a prize.

Two main sections in this amazing resource share

I. The Building Blocks (reproductive and sexual health, anatomy and physiology, sti's, birth control, sexuality as we age, variations of development)

2. Mind Game (defining love and commitment, sexual attitudes and behavior, recognizing obstacles related to reproductive health, and finally sexual harassment/ abuse.)

Direct talk about a NEED TO KNOW subject.

I have witnessed Betsy Cairo and her organization first hand when they have put on educational classes.. A lot of of participants would not have been able to attend had she made it available to all without financial obligations. I have seen the ones that need her classes the most are the ones that can least afford it.. Her organizations takes that burden off of the participants
Great Organization

I had to opportunity to join Look Both Ways for an annual parade in Loveland, CO. This was my first real experience with the team and my expectations were far exceeded. Everyone was truly passionate about filling the gaps in our current reproductive health education and working diligently to prepare course curriculum that emphasizes both abstinence and preventive reproductive health. From the day of the parade, I knew that I wanted to be apart of this great organization and help bring a comprehensive educational experience to everyone.
