I volunteered here for 6 years, and I witnessed the incredible transformation of so many behaviorally challenged dogs to become adoptable and happy dogs! The staff and volunteers KNOW what a truly amazing shelter LHS is! I also adopted 3 dogs from them, and why I had to step away as a volunteer! My husband said I had to leave before I adopt more dogs. I am still a foster though!
I recently began volunteering at LHS in surgery. This organization provides phenomenal care and support to the animals it serves. They are well trained, organized, and the team possesses a synergy that is impressive. Also important to note is the number of volunteers that not only show up regularly, but on a moments notice if needed. I'm looking forward to learning more about this amazing group!
My husband and I adopted Axel over a year ago. Longmont Humane Society was Axel's home for over 735 days until he became part of our family! We're so grateful for the love, care, and attention he received during that time while he waited for the right family (us!) to come along. I recently started volunteering at LHS as a dog walker as a way to give back to the organization. Seeing LHS behind the scenes really gives a view of a highly compassionate, professional, caring staff and facility for animals in need of shelter, services, and support. Our community is so fortunate to have LHS!
The Longmont Humane Society is such a great organization, with an amazing staff of caring individuals. As a dog walking volunteer, I'm always impressed with how each person can tell you a dog's name and something about their personality, even if the dog has just been there a day or two. The work they do is not easy but so important, and they do a great job. It's a rewarding place to spend time, knowing the all fur babies are well cared for in their temporary home.
Our niece adopted a dog from LHS. He made a huge difference in her life and got her back on track. It was a win, win for both the dog & my niece.
The people at Longmont Humane Society work tirelessly to take care of all the dogs, cats and small animals in their care. When a dog or cat has a behavior problem, they expend great time and energy to help the animal work through whatever the behavior problem is. They are diligent about spending time with each animal and the dogs are walked several times each day. They have enrichment activities for the dogs and cats. They do a great job of taking care of all the animals.
I have been volunteering at LHS for a couple months now and it has been the most amazing and rewarding experience. I love being part of this awesome group of people knowing that im helping out the community, the shelter, and pf course the residents! Longmont humane is such an amazing place making sure every animal is taken care of better than anyone could imagine.
A great organization that really seems to care for the animals here. As a volunteer for dog walking, I have seen the time and effort that goes into helping each dog become the best version of him/herself through training/socialization. Animals are given the care that they need and deserve, to successfully thrive in their new home (and will not be adoptable until they are ready to move on). The facility is very nice and staff works hard to maintain a level of cleanliness and comfort for the animals there, which warms my heart (blankets and toys can be found in most, if not all kennels :) I enjoy going and being able to contribute to this organization that is an incredible resource for all animals who will have their immediate needs met in a kind and compassionate environment!
Time & again LHS takes on the hard cases without flinching. Foster animals with medical issues or terminal illnesses. Dogs with difficult behavior issues. Where other shelters would give up, LHS finds a way.
As a volunteer of 13+ years at LHS, starting as a JACA kid filling KONGS to now a fourth level volunteer, working in our Training and Behavior Modification department alongside our staff, I have to say I WOULD NOT do anything else with my time. The level of behavioral support, training, time, love, effort and meticulous care given by our staff and volunteers is top notch and unmatched. I've adopted seven seniors from our shelter over the years, in my opinion, our post adoption follow up, behavioral support and health care is unsurpassed! Volunteering here is an educational, supportive, professional and wonderful experience that I recommend to anyone looking to make a difference in the lives of animals! This is like my second home!
I love fostering for the Longmont Humane Society! I adopted one of my foster cats and could not be happier. I love that I can foster a variety of animals, from cats to rabbits.
Ever since I was young, I’ve loved animals. I had two dogs of my own, and wanted to understand them more. The Longmont Humane Society not only let me learn more about animals, but also gave me the ability to take care of them. With friendly staff, excellent volunteers, and one of the best environments I’ve ever had the pleasure of being apart of, they really do stand out as the best Non-profit I have ever worked with. The dedication and passion I’ve seen towards the animals through the people I've worked with inspire me to do better every day. I always look forward to volunteering there, and I find that I’m not the only one with that same sentiment. I would 100% recommend you come check out the Longmont Humane Society, as I’m sure you’ll share the same heartwarming experience I’ve had throughout my time volunteering at the Longmont Humane Society.
I have been a volunteer in the Well Pet Clinic for over 10 years. The veterinary staff is excellent. Every person is committed to the well being of every animal that comes into the clinic. In addition, I have the opportunity as a medical coordinator to interact with the staff in the shelter. This group of people provide the dogs and cats that are waiting for homes the utmost care and kindness. One example, is a staff member who takes a dog who has been waiting for home outside everyday to roll in the yard because she knows he loves it. That is only one example of how much they care for the animals.
I love Longmont Humane Society! I worked as both a foster parent and a front desk volunteer, and loved how friendly and supportive everyone there is. I felt seen with every little worry I had regarding my fosters. They care so much about their animals and have nothing but the best staff to take care of them.
LMHS is truly one of the best organizations! I have been volunteering for almost a year now, and I see first-hand how awesome the staff and overall community at the society is. The staff is so caring and attentive, both to it's animals and it's volunteers. If I or another volunteer needs something, we know that the staff will be available and willing to help us no matter what. Each volunteer and staff member cares so, so deeply about the animals and do everything they can to make each animal's life the best it can be.
I have learned so much working at this establishment, and I know I will continue to do so.
Longmont Humane Society is an amazing organization who helps countless animals to find their homes, as well as helping lost animals get home. They go above and beyond to show their volunteers they appreciate them every chance they get and have a wonderful foster program that provides a secure environment for young animals to be nourished. The staff at Longmont Humane Society are really great; they are helpful, friendly, and hardworking and treat the volunteers with kindness and respect. The dedication and commitment that all the staff of this organization has to helping animals is admirable. Their outstanding training and behavioral program helps countless animals get the support they need to be adopted and to thrive in their new home. Longmont Humane Society is an incredible organization that focuses on fostering a kind, respectful environment for their volunteers, their staff, and the animals they care for.
I’ve been volunteering as a dog walkerat the Longmont Humane Society for almost 3 months, and I am incredibly impressed with how they run the facility, especially since the vast majority of people who “work” here are volunteers. I grew up working in my father‘s animal hospital, and then I was also a veterinary software trainer. So I’ve seen behind the scenes in a lot of different clinics and facilities. The folks at Longmont Humane do an amazing job! They somehow keep the place incredibly clean and they work really hard to give every animal every possible chance to find a forever home through training, regular walks, play groups, a foster program and more. It’s amazing how many of the volunteers have literally been there for years. The Longmont Humane Society is a wonderful organization full of hard working, caring people and well worth supporting.
I have two amazing, wonderful dogs from Longmont Humane. (LHS). One has a medical condition that had she not ended up at LHS, she may have struggled to thrive. I'm so grateful for the amazing work they do!!!
I cannot say enough great things about the Longmont Humane Society. I am both an adopter and a volunteer, and both of these experiences with the Longmont Humane Society changed my life and have provided me with so much love and things to look forward to. The staff is so kind and hard working. When you walk through the building, it is so apparent that every single animal is very well taken care of, and they all get their medical/behavioral needs met. Being a foster volunteer with the humane society is such a fun and special part of my life. The foster coordinator is extremely responsive and friendly, and the humane society provides everything one could need to be a successful foster parent.
I've fostered kittens for Longmont Humane Society for 5 years, and can tell you this place is filled with the most caring, nurturing, dedicated people! Today I brought in a litter of foster kittens for their first vaccines, and by the time I walked to the clinic, there was a parade of staff and volunteers following along, all excited to offer their loving arms and reassurance to these babies.
I've been volunteering at LHS for 6-7 years now, starting primarily with dog walking and now mainly doing the medication coordination for the clinic. I've moved since I started and now live an hour away with several closer shelters, but I've chosen to stay at LHS because of how strong their volunteer and dog training programs are. The opportunity to learn about animal welfare and a bit about dog medications is really wonderful and so far the shelter is the best I've seen/experienced in the area.
I have volunteered for the Longmont Humane Society for 8 years in the past. I am classified as an experienced volunteer for dogs. The staff and volunteers are well trained to handle anything that arrises. The facility is kept clean and since they have a veterinary clinic on site, the animals are treated well and readied for adoption. I helped the photographer set up and take pictures for their website as well. I have also adopted 3 beautiful family dogs myself over the years!
I found an abandoned senior cat during the winter and Longmont Humane Society took it in, vetted it and found it a loving home. I am so grateful for the work they do and how they care for God's creation!
I now foster for them!
Being a foster parent for the last three years with Longmont Humane has been so rewarding! They are so caring and keep us well stocked with all the supplies we could ever ask for. They are very responsive to questions and emergencies, and have helped countless animals find loving foster homes until they're ready for adoption. The community pet pantry is always full of quality items that are free for anyone in need, and I love the programs like the Bake Sale and the Expawdition system for getting dogs out on adventures. The shelter at large is very clean and organized with kind staff.
In addition to fostering, my family was very lucky to find our sweet cat at LHS and are in the process now of adopting his new little sister!
LHS is an absolutely amazing place to volunteer. The care they give each and every animal that enters is nothing but the best. They cherish the volunteers and do everything they can to support them. I've been volunteering there for over 8 years and I've fallen in love with so many animals during my time. I can recommend supporting LHS to anyone I meet because I know the standard of care is so high. I'm so happy that I made the choice years ago to spend my time here. I'm also the happy mama to my LHS alumni pup!
This is by far the best shelter I have been to! The way that the volunteers get to interact with the animals in such a special way is something that me, being a volunteer love and value so much! I am excited to show up to volunteer with them, because of such a special connection to the animals! Additionally, the place is clean, well kept, has nice staff, and takes very good care of the animals!
This is an amazing place to volunteer! We are a group of people with disabilities and we love helping out at the shelter. The staff is kind and always works with us to find appropriate jobs that enable us to learn new skills!
We started volunteering at this shelter 6 months ago, after we moved to the area. We strongly believe in the mission of the Longmont Humane Society, love working with the animals and meeting other volunteers. The organization trains and supports the volunteers very well, the animals are well cared for and it is always great to see new families with their new fur babies leaving!
Nothing but the best and friendliest people at Longmont. I've adopted twice from here and also take all my boys here for their medical checkups. Keep up the good and necessary work!
I have volunteered and worked at Longmont Humane for 18 years. As a 4th level volunteer, I have worked with dogs needing extra help to be comfortable meeting people and other animals in order to be ready for their forever homes. Longmont Humane has an excellent behavior department, using balanced training to achieve remarkable results and I am proud to be a part of it.
I have been an avid supporter of LHS for over three decades. I have adopted both dogs and cats from them. I have participated in their fundraisers - including dog walks, vaccination clinics, bake sales. My dogs have been through training classes there ranging from puppy canine superstars to the ACES classes (animal continuing education superstars). I have now been volunteering at LHS and working with the dogs since 2011 and plan to do so forever. I have participated in their fostering of dogs upon occasion. I offer the utmost praises and gratitude to all the staff and volunteers that make up the LHS family and community. Their excellent behavior and training department work for and achieve extraordinary success in creating win-win situations for the adoptable animals and humans alike. I definitely give them a zillion star rating from start to finish.
This place does amazing work for animals in need. Very caring and helpful people. I would highly recommend!
I have been volunteering here for nearly a year and this shelter far exceeded my expectations. I was able to do important work and provide excellent care for these animals. The incredible quantity of volunteer hours and small animals adopted monthly are beyond numbers ever imagined at several shelters I've previously volunteered at. Keep it up, Longmont Humane Society!
I volunteer here and they do really good work with their animals, and you can really tell they care about them.
I started volunteering with LHS as a medications coordinator a few months ago and I love this organization! Everyone there is so friendly and they truly love the animals. I'm mostly in the clinic and I can't get over how they handle the animals - they're so compassionate and loving and gentle with them. I feel really lucky to be part of an organization like this.
I have been volunteering for several years in the surgical area. As a retired RN, I am in a position to see things differently from other volunteers. I can't tell you how impress I am with the skill of the Veterinarians & the Vet techs. They are able to do so much with so little. Everything that can be recycled is (unlike human ORs with so much waste). These animals receive the best care possible.
My daughter takes her adopted dog to the Well Pet Clinic. They understood she was struggling financially & offered her to apply for discounted care. It is wonderful that they have that option which results in a better life for the animals.
We had a wonderful experience adopting from Longmont Humane Society! We adopted our dog, originally named Foreman but now Ranger, and he's truly the best addition to our family. Ranger is a total cuddle bug who loves being close to us and enjoys every chance to play with his pals or sniff around outside. We couldn’t have asked for a better dog! The team at LHS was friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive throughout the process. I also appreciate that they offer helpful resources for the community. Highly recommend LHS for anyone looking to adopt.
Greetings! My husband and I have been volunteering as dog walkers with Longmont Humane Society since June 2022. Along with walks, treats, and affection, we also get to take some of the pups on fun day outings or even sleepovers. In return, we get to spend time with these wonderful, gentle souls while supporting our community and working alongside an incredibly dedicated staff. It’s a truly rewarding experience!

What I love about the Longmont Humane Society is the kindness and dignity in which they treat their animals. Also the practice that any animal housed there gets as much time as they need to be adopted. (As an example Bandit was there for 2 years).
I also love the way they make donations to the community
Jeanne by way of portioning out several kinds of items (like food or cat litter. That has helped me out several times.

Thank you for considering the Longmont Humane Society!
I have been volunteering with the Longmont Humane Society for over a year. I enjoy being a cat cuddler and helping with the laundry, dishes, sweeping, and sorting donations. All the staff are very helpful. The training is thorough. There is a quick turn over for cats. I rarely see the same cat 2 weeks in a row.
I recently started volunteering at the LHS this past summer as a dog walker and I’ve have been so impressed with the care provided for the animals. From the operation logistics, scheduling, cleanliness, consistency, friendly staff and dogs are extremely well taken care of. The list of great things to say about LHS is unlimited. You can tell LHS takes great pride in ensuring EVERY animal is getting the individual care and attention while they are waiting for their forever home. I am so proud and it brings me so much joy being apart of LHS
I’ve volunteered here for a little under a year, and my family has known LHS for quite a while. My entire experience has been great - the staff and other volunteers I’ve met are all quite nice, and the entire facility, in my opinion, is clean and well managed. The animals are well cared for, and the community both in and out do so much to support LHS!
I have volunteered at the Humane Society for over three years now and have been so pleased to see how well the animals are treated walked twice a day kennels cleaned every morning. They euthanize only as a last resort. Many pets are allowed to stay there for even over a year until the Right family comes along. I love this place.
I have been a volunteer for two years now at the humane society and it is awesome! They take such good care of the animals, and make sure their individual needs are met. They are focused on getting every dog or cat adopted, and provide additional training to prepare more “difficult” dogs for finding a forever home. I love volunteer and the humane society because all the dogs are well taken care of. I love how they do teen volunteering and camps to involve the community in humane animal care as well.
I love working with the Longmont humane society the staff is wonderful and very helpful. Civillans think that volunteers know everything. WE DO NOT know everything, ask the front desk. I love working with the cats and people think that cats will bite and claw you but they're just scary and need a loving home. Most of our cats are surrendered and they're scared and worried. People don't want a scary cat but they're scary because their owners left them.
Its amazing, I volunteer here, the staff is just wonderful and they truly care about animals, always super helpful and making a good environment to get animals Adopted with ease. Love all the staff here
Hello! I remember back when the 'Rescue' was several old commercial chicken coops strung together and later a basic facility to house displaced animals. The people were warm and caring but the facility was small.
Now the Humane Society is a wonderful, warm place where the #1 goal is to receive each animal as they are and provide exactly what they require to thrive in both body and mind. It's bright and airy with dedicated staff and volunteers. The goal is to walk the dogs at least 3 times a day!
I adopted a couple kitties over the years; this year I came in for a dog to be a companion to an abused dog I acquired. The people at the LHS were very helpful and provided me with valid information to make a 'happy ending' decision. It isn't a quick 30 minute process; and it highlights their dedication to ensuring a fair process is followed, the adopter knows of an animals needs (high energy, intensive grooming, etc.) and a meet \ greet with pets at home. Not apparent were the subtle questions about the home environment and the attention paid when the family and current pets met the adoptee which shields an animal from a bad situation.
Its pretty incredible that so many moving parts mesh so well at LHS. Everyone is there for the animals.
My son and I have been volunteering in the Cat area, mostly cleaning kennels and feeding, but also some socialization, for a bit over a year. He loves to come and assist me in cleaning the kennels and getting their food. The other volunteers, as well as various staff who come through while we are working, are great.
We also got our current kitties at the LHS, 13 years ago. (In fact, the two kitties before them were also Humane Society kittens, one from LHS, and one from a HS in the Bay area.) When I need to adopt a kitty again, I will not hesitate to come to LHS to find my next fur babies.
This facility takes better care of their animals AND people than anywhere I have volunteered with. I make the 1 hour drive to volunteer just because I enjoy the environment so much! The volunteers and staff make sure these dogs have EVERYTHING THEY NEED PLUS MORE to succeed! We are lucky to have Longmont Humane Society serving our community!
I've been volunteering for 12 years! I teach new volunteers, help out in photography and work with the dogs needing extra support to get to the adoptable stage. I love the passion that the staff and volunteers have for every animal that comes through the doors. Not only a volunteer, I've adopted 2 dogs and 2 cats from LHS and most recently, I had a Foster Fail and ended up adopting another dog :). We are so fortunate to have this caring organization in our community.
I have been volunteering here for two and a half years now. I have met and worked with wonderful staff and other volunteers, and feel good about the work I put into feeding the cats and cleaning their kennels. I love to see so many of these cats have found homes every week I go in.
I've been volunteering at Longmont Humane Society for 8 years and it has been an amazing experience. Getting to see how this place operates from the inside has shown me just how valuable LHS is to the pets and the community. Every animal that comes in is shown the love and compassion it needs to thrive. Having a medical staff and training team on site is invaluable. The staff is wonderful and they're always willing to listen to volunteers, you can tell they value your opinion and are grateful for everything you do. The volunteer positions vary greatly so there is an opportunity for everyone to helps that wants to. I've helped with vaccine clinics, spay/neuter clinics, transporting animals to specialty veterinarians, taking animals to Petline 9, taking dogs to Valley Subaru of Longmont to be their "Pet of the Month", helping design fundraisers, and my favorite just simply walking dogs. Volunteering at LHS is also how I met my dog Murphy.
I have been volunteering as a dog walker at Longmont Humane Society for almost 10 years and adopting from them much longer than that. I couldn’t be involved without knowing these animals are being given the best care. It’s much more than a “shelter,” these animals are well loved!
After volunteering for about 9 months i can definitely say that the volunteers are all hard working, and the staff supporting them are very helpful and communicate very well
I’ve only been volunteering here for a few months, but it is a wonderful place. The other volunteers and staff take pride in what they do, and the communication between volunteers and admin is very good. And as a bonus all the animals are adorable.
The Longmont Humane Society is truly a special place. Every animal that comes through the shelter is faced with nothing but love. High quality doctor visits, constant love playtime and attention, food and treats, every step is taken. I’m a volunteer, and every time I go in to work with the babies is the best. I love seeing how kindly and loving they are treated, and it breaks my heart knowing not every shelter is as incredible as the Humane Society. Every volunteer and individual at the shelter makes it their mission to help the animals and make sure they feel love before finding their forever home. I’m so grateful to everyone who works hard to make the shelter so welcoming to all animals no matter their background.
I've been graced with the chance to get to know the people behind the scenes here and foresee nothing but improvements and kindness coming from the group going forward. They have built a facility that is not just shelter but a resource for an entire community and I couldn't be happier to have them and their vision in my city.
The staff and volunteers at Longmont Humane Society care so much for animals and it is evident in everything they do - the programs offered and the services provided to the community. They truly give every single animal the chance to have a successful outcome and it is amazing!
We had an incredible experience adopting from Longmont Humane Society. On December 26, 2021, we met our sweet gray cat, Juniper. The staff was caring, and they shared her background, showing so much compassion. They were attentive, and Juniper’s gentle purring and curiosity instantly stole our hearts. We felt supported throughout the entire adoption process. Today, Juniper is an inseparable part of our family, and we couldn’t imagine life without her. LHS made our home complete with love and joy! Highly recommend!
Do not donate to these people. No one there actually cares about the animals. They gave a dog to a known violent homeless pedo, and they tried to cover it up. Daniel Larson.
I love the longmont humane society i got my rabbit there I volunteer at the longmont humane society it is a great place:)
Terrible service. Girl who supposedly scheduled it time to pick up a dog we were adopting apparently didn't enter it into the system. Controlling woman who was working the next day then said we might have to wait 2 hours to get the dog. Punishing wait in the waiting room. Do not know when I will get out of here. We did all the rigamarole when we put the dog on hold and had the meet with our other dogs. Now more rigamarole.
No wonder people buy from breeders.
I first joined LHS as a volunteer nearly 10 years ago since it allowed me and my young daughters to work with the animals directly. After seeing the wonderful work of the great staff at LHS, I decided to get involved in a more significant way by joining the board. LHS is a wonderful organization and an iconic part of the Longmont community. I'm proud to be affiliated with the shelter.
The Well Pet Clinic is an impressive feature of this non profit that not only serves the animals in LHS's care, but also provides low cost services and medications to the community and their pets. I will never forget when I took a tour of the facility for the first time and was SO impressed with the surgery/hospital unit inside the "dome".
As a result of my first facility tour, I have now been a volunteer at LHS for the last 7 years. This non profit does wonderful things for the animals of our community including most recently taking in 96 displaced animals that were a part of the fire evacuations. The LHS staff works tirelessly to help ALL animals in need (including the occasional birds, rabbit, chinchilla etc.).
I will continue to support Longmont Humane Society because I believe in their mission and I believe in the people that work there. They serve mainly Longmont but also the surrounding areas of Boulder County.
Our family has adopted 4 cats from LHS, two were disabled. The organization goes above and beyond each adoption process to make sure the families and their new member are a great fit!!
Longmont is blessed to have this organization!!!
Longmont Humane Society does good work! I have adopted 2 dogs and a cat there over the years. The facility is rather new and has great living quarters for dogs and cats. You can tell the animals are well cared for. Unfortunately, the new facility cost much more to build. Also, they were expecting a $300,000 donation pledge to help with costs of the new building but the donor backed out. They are really desperate and need money badly or they will go into foreclosure very soon.
Longmont Humane Society helped so many Colorado flood victims. They took in displaced animals and people too. Everyone was so grateful that the Longmont Humane stepped up and worked hard to help these displaced animals.
Review from Guidestar
I was a volunteer for 2 years, cleaning kennels, walking dogs, and socializing cats who needed extra help .
I spent 7 hours a week there. After realizing I could no longer afford to drive the 25 miles there I stopped volunteering and got a job there instead.
All volunteer and staff are truly there for the animals. During the recent floods when the shelter was in the evac zone they stayed there. They took in people's animals and even gave a few people a place to stay the night.
I am very proud to be part of this organization.
