A place where miracles happen. I have watched not only the veterans, but their family members just totally enjoy every moment at Lonesome Dove. It is so very rewarding to be a part of this. Everyone is welcome and everyone feels at peace at this facility. I look forward to going "out to the ranch" to see the veterans having such good times and to see the wonderful volunteers. To socialize with everyone and to be near the horses in such a wonderful setting - it is therapy for this volunteer as well.
It is something one must experience to understand. There is no paid staff and we rely totally on donations.

Lonesome Dove Equestrian Center is a hidden gem providing comfort, friendship, and self worth for our local veterans. LDEC depends on donations, and promote their services through social media, fundraising, and word of mouth. Having volunteered to provide meals, make trophies, and donate needed funds, I can not tell you the joy my heart feels. To be able to give back to the men and woman who have served our country and who just enjoy being heard is such a pleasure for me. Clint Arrington,Sherry, and many volunteers work so hard to bring forth a dignified vision in a relaxed country setting that makes our veterans proud of what they have sacrificed. Once again Powhatan is providing a needed service that benefits us all.

A group of us from our church provided lunch for the veterans and volunteers at Lonesome Dove and we were blessed more than they. Everyone there was so appreciative, they gave us a tour since it was our first time, and we even got a trophy for bringing lunch. They are a very friendly group with so much compassion for the veterans as they are always looking for new ways to encourage and benefit the veterans. They are also just a great group of people who love what they do, and the volunteers love what they do. It is such a worthy cause and we had a super time being with them----they even let us ride the horses! They deserve much credit and blessings for their efforts.
