We applied to adopt a dog after we lost 2 dogs in a year from cancer. In their application they asked if we gave monthly heartworm medication to our dogs. We did not as our vet said it was not really necessary if they come in for their semi-annual check up and test then. They called for a phone interview and I answered all questions honestly. i received an email saying our application had been denied. In the email was this line : Your vet records indicate that your pet has not been on heartworm prevention or tested in the past. This is simply untrue as they never contacted our vet. They just went by the answers I gave them in the phone interview. You would be hard pressed to best better pet owners than we are. This is my email in response :

This is loss for one of your available labs. My dogs are always up to date on ALL shots and go to the vet every 6 months for all shots/vaccines or treatments and we listen to and adhere to what our vet recommends. I checked with my vet and your organization never even contacted them nor did you contact any the references we provided (btw we could have provided many, many more). We had 2 dogs we rescued that both passed away this year. Both from cancer (11yo and 13yo) which we literally spent thousands of dollars to treat. One of the dogs, a Flat Coated Retriever was on a daily regiment of medicine 2x a day for over 6 years. Any dog that we will adopt will always be taken care of and be provided with the most loving environment possible. This is your loss and worse, a loss for one of your dogs. For us this is insulting because of how well we know we keep and provide for our dogs. We will now always advice anyone who is interested in adopting a dog to avoid your organization and ask them to not to donate money or time to your organization.
