ROCK, Reducing Obesity in Central Florida Kids, is a regional consortium ensuring healthy lifestyles that eliminate the risk for childhood obesity. This effort will be accomplished through a web-based networking communication portal, dissemination of a consistent social marketing message, and community collaboration to advance initiatives targeted to prevent childhood obesity. Success will be measured through the comparison of community survey data conducted in five-year intervals, BMI data collection, community-based scientific research studies, and program evaluation. The consortium budget for 2010 and 2011 is $354,544.00 (two year budget); 54% for operating expenses, 28% for social marketing, 18% for evaluation and small community initiatives. The target population is Brevard, Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties. Successes to date: baseline data has been collected, secured grant funding for research study, conducted educational outreach to forty physicians. Funding is the biggest challenge for the consortium.
