I have always loved animals and have volunteered in several capacities for animals. I have rescued on my own several animals and am the go to person for any friends or family with questions about proper care. I found LCC through Facebook and was really impressed with their kind compassionate approach to educating misinformed people. Many times when there is a group that is an advocate for a specific group of animals (small furry creatures, rats, fish, reptiles, bugs etc). There becomes a group think culture of superiority where everyone in that group is a perfect pet owner and new people get slaughtered for asking questions or showing pictures of "improper set ups." In LCC I quickly realized that attacking people for asking questions was not done. People new to an animal were not shamed or criticized for asking questions or even showing poor set ups. They were embraced and kindly shown or told that it is apparent that they love their animal by asking questions and that there is a better way to enrich your pets life and therefore enriching your relationship with your pet. Many people in LCC will openly acknowledge that we all started somewhere because we did not know better. I started with a small hamster cage that was not appropriate for my hamster and my relationship with my hamster was affected by it. Because I just did not know. Now I have rats and I know better than I did when I was younger and kept my one rat by herself in a 10 gallon aquarium. I have witnessed people come to this group and thrive with the information provided. In turn I have seen animals thrive! I have been able to teach my children a different better way, and have the support to help them become amazing advocates as well!
Through LCC our home has become the transport hub for many animals. We have intakes, adopters and fosters from all over the state and so we have opened our home to animals that are in need of getting one place to another. It has made it easier for many animals to be able to be safely picked up or dropped off and made meet ups easier for all involved. I am so proud to get to be a part of a group that leads by example and puts the care of animals first.
