Rating: 5

The Literacy Lab is a remarkable organization. It provides a very structured, data driven, proven literacy tutoring program to thousands of deserving, low income prek to grade 3 students. Their tutors (over 200 in school year 2016-2017) are well trained, driven, and dedicated. They work currently in 4 main metropolitan areas: Washington, DC/Alexandria, VA; Baltimore; Richmond, VA; and Kansas City, MO. The tutors are supported by a pretty incredible group of social entrepreneurs, led by our founders, Ashley Johnson and Tom Dillon. Ashley and Tom lead a Washington, DC based staff that works extremely closely with all our constituents -- school districts; schools; teachers; master literacy coaches; state boards of education; federal government; students; private funders, etc. The work that The Literacy Lab is doing is transformational to the lives of over 4,000 students currently.

Rating: 5

The extraordinarily effective programs of The Literacy Lab are achieving dramatic grade-level improvements with their students. These well designed literacy intervention and tutoring programs that are staffed by highly qualified and thoroughly trained staff are the heart of their success. The dedicated and tenacious management of this non-profit are focused on student achievement and success and not for just the short term. The Literacy Lab is trying to achieve nothing less than systemic change of an educational culture infused with mediocrity. We support this organization because of their intense dedication to their students achievement and their incredible financial management and stewardship.
