Mission: The Lincoln Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was established in 1867 as a burial site for the African American community. Existing laws and regulations required the segregation of the African Americans, even in death. There are approximately 400 people interred in the cemetery, including 30 men who served their country in the Civil War.

The organizations that founded the cemetery passed out of existence over the years and, without care; it fell into serious and tragic disrepair. For decades it remained virtually abandoned and neglected, until 1992 when a group of concerned citizens initiated return of the Memorial Day observance. In 1999, many of these same citizens formed the LCPA as a legally constituted non-profit organization.

The basic purpose of the Association is to restore, preserve, and provide continuing care for the historic African American cemetery. Thus, bringing proper honor and dignity to those buried there.
