As someone who has worked in animal welfare for several years, I have nothing but GREAT things to say about this rescue organization. I am an adopter and a supporter of LLR. They are kind, professional, prompt and supportive. They are honest and sincere. Their adoption fee is reasonable and rational. Their number one priority is the welfare and placement of pets. I will adopt from them again when I have room in my home for my next pet.

Do I recommend adopting from Lennox's Legacy? The tiny little peanut attached to this review came to me via them. I began following them in 2009 when the Founder Katie rescued a beautiful lab Lucas who was seriously injured and dumped in a kill shelter. Katie stepped up when nobody else nearby would despite the high medical costs and long healing process he would need. In the years after Lucas there were many, many more severe medical cases and again Katie stepped in knowing taking that pup would be costly. I've watched them grow in the last12 years and it's always been about what is best for the animal. Katie makes sure every adopted dog, cat, horse goes to the best home. Hard cases aren't turned away because of medical expense, Katie will work hours or days asking for donations and finds a way to save that animal in need. There is NO doubt that the entire family have a passion for giving abused, neglected or thrown away animals a path to a great future. So yeah, when my peanut's face got posted as a new intake from a puppy mill I was on it to get that application in. I live in WI and after following their strict requirements ( strict for a reason, the safety of the animal and no chance of a bad adoption) which I understood the reason for and happily obliged that little peanut came home to WI and 8 ears later she remains my heart dog. Katie was always available as a resource if needed and was absolutely wonderful to work with. Her husband even started spoiling my baby with belly rubs before she came to me. So yeah I sure would adopt from them again I support them when able and would not hesitate recommending them. Grateful every day that Katie took in my Cadie ( yes had to name her after the woman who took her in) and honored me with privilege of loving this little one daily.

My daughter was about to be two when she lost her best friend and mine. Our 3 legged pit bull. On her second bday we was looking for her new best friend. Katie help us find her she had an amazing new best friend. Katie had this amazing pitbull mix named Kacey. She didn't bark was such a gentle sole and my daughter had to have her. We adopted her from this rescue and not only my daughter but my entire family feel in love with her. This rescue brought light back into my eyes and sadly she passed on with old age but till she did she was the most amazing dog ever. This rescue has not only allowed us to rescue an amazing dog that will never be forgot but has help me when I had questions about my dog now. Guided me and my family more than once with help for our animals. This rescue is so amazing and makes sure that you understand everything about the animal so that not only is the animal the best fit for your family but you are the best fight to be its forever home.

We adopted an amazing dog through this recue a few years ago. Through this, we saw all the love and support Kate shared and the sacrifices she makes for the animals who need help and are in her care. Because of her, we met and adopted one of the best dogs we have ever met. Kate's large heart rescued our dog and others from a horrible situation, and through blood, sweat, and tears was able to find them all amazingly loving homes. She deserves all credit and respect for the incredible work that she does, as she is constantly stretched in a million directions and still keeps the best interest of the animals a priority.

I am in love with my new girl The Queen Carmella, formerly known as Carmel! I can not thank Lennox’s Legacy enough for the work that they do. Not only do they rescue small animals, they rescue horses and farm critters as well. That is huge in the animal world. I highly recommend people donate and adopt through here. Support your local rescues, these are the people that need local support for all of their personal time and money they use to make these unwanted critters feel at home until us lucky adopters give them the life they deserve. Hats off to you guys for your work and love you put into all of the critters you help.

I have been volunteering regularly for Lennoxs Legacy for many many years and I have seen how hard Lennox (Kate) with fight for an animal that is being treated wrongly.
Lennox is the voice for the voiceless, always looking to help the animals that get looked over or have medical needs, the beaten and abused.
I foster as well and I love seeing these shy broken souls come out of their shells and realize that not all humans are mean.
This rescue isn’t just a rescue; it’s life, it is heart and soul, it’s blood sweat and tears.
I am proud and so thankful to be part of Lennox.

While I have not adopted from LLR I have fostered a dog with a medically complex condition who thrived in the care provided by the rescue. I continue to be a supporter, advocate and cheerleader for all that happens in the rescue. My autistic teenager loves a blind horse that thrives in the rescues care and recently made her his birthday fundraiser. I would highly recommend Lennox's to anyone looking to adopt, foster or volunteer.

I have been volunteering for Lennoxs ,as my health allows ,for the last several years. It amazes me to no end that people can be so judgemental when not getting their way. I have enjoyed trick or treat at the barn. So many children and families got to enjoy the animals and have fun. I have helped clean stalls and take treats to the animals and have to say, they are all so spoiled. You wouldn't think a rescue would have time to spoil all the animals, but Kate manages to include them all. She gets to know each animal, makes sure they have a clean bill of health and most importantly, finds them a place to have a better life. I would love to adopt some of the sweet dogs but have a special needs pup of my own that won't understand another animal in our bed. That is something Kate and crew are mindful of when choosing adopters. That keeps animals from going from one bad situation into another accidentally bad situation. Whether you can donate your time or money, this rescue is worth your while. Kate is a fierce and tireless advocate for all animals.

I am so thankful that this rescue exists!! I got my super sweet Heeler from them almost 9 years ago, and to this day I am still in contact with them.

The work they do is hard, dirty, exhausting, and sometimes heart breaking...but the do it, and they do it well. They work so hard to give a chance at a good life to as many animals as they can. They are up front and honest with you about their dog evaluations and what each dog need individually. Kate and her volunteers live, sleep, and breath rescue.

I adopted an adult dog who was rescued by Lennox’s Legacy from a puppy mill. My dog was not acclimated to being a pet in a home with other dogs so the transition was challenging. Katie was extremely supportive and accessible as I struggled with the addition of my newly adopted dog who has become a loving family member and resident celebrity wherever I take her. I am so grateful for Katie’s patience with owners like me and vigilance for the animals in need of rescue. Her organization and family work tirelessly to save so many animals from terrible circumstances and have contributed joy to so many families❤️

I have known Kate Wilson for a very long time. I met her when she first started rescuing dogs others would never have taken on. She was a miracle worker. Fearless and outspoken, honest and straightforward , no time for ego. Yours or hers. She created Lennoxs Legacy Rescue Inc and gives absolutely everything she has to keep it afloat, while sticking to the principles that prioritize the animals. I am beyond honored to call her my friend, and I trust her without question to help me pick the right dog for my family. We have a crazy, loud and obnoxious gigantic Newfoundland and a certifiably insane Pug. We needed a dog who could handle and enjoy both. We were honest about our needs, and let Kate choose a dog who would be a good fit. Today, March 1st, marks the second anniversary of Gotti joining our family, and we could not be more grateful to Kate for picking him for us. He’s the second Rottweiler we’ve adopted from LLR. Both dogs were a perfect fit for our family. They are honest about temperament, which is unfortunately rare in most rescue organizations.

This rescue is very close to my whole family. Between my sisters, myself and children we’ve adopted 10 dogs from Lennox’s legacy. The way that Katie and her family help these animals is amazing. They have traveled so far to help any animal in need. And I mean any animal. I wish every rescue was like this one and took the time to make sure each animal went to the beat home. Thank you Lennox’s legacy for all you do and for helping every animal you can. You are definitely a gift from god!

Our family adopted our dog, Mollie, from Lennoxs Legacy Rescue in 2013. We have fostered three dogs for them as well. We fell in love with our last foster and adopted him into our family. He came from a hoarding situation with twenty five other dogs that were living in a house that had been condemned. I was with Kate as the dogs were pulled from the house to help transport them to her home where their fosters would pick them up. I believe a few went to a sister rescue. Nonetheless this was a huge commitment for Lennoxs Legacy. One that other rescues turned down.

This is one of the things I love most about Lennoxs Legacy, they take the hard cases, the ones other rescues won't touch, that are too challenging, that will cost too much vet the animal. Kate is resilient and will find a way to help the ones that need it most.

Lennoxs Legacy also rescues horses, often from kill pen auctions! The ones that people just want to squeeze a few more dollars out of before they send them to their deaths. So many amazingly gorgeous horses saved by Lennoxs Legacy. They still have so much life to live and love to give.

Rescue is hard. I have seen tears shed, tempers flare over difficult situations that ended with a failed rescue attempt, and pure exhaustion in Kates eyes. But she keeps saving animals that need her help.

Lennoxs Legacy wants these animals that have had such a rough life up until the point of rescue to go to their last loving home. Yes there is an application fee...$5. There are a ton of questions on the application too..for good reason. They want to assure that all of their hard work put into getting these animals isn't wasted. They want to know the family is a fit, they want to know the animal won't be returned or passed to someone else. They want the animals to live out the rest if their lives in a secure loving home.

It takes patience and time to go through the adoption process..something a lot of people don't have anymore. It is sad when someone doesn't get approved or had to wait too long to hear back ( rescue is busy & demanding) that they leave a bad review or talk ill of these hard working people. Bad reviews can cost animal lives, which is very unfortunate.

I have been to this rescue multiple times. Katie is one of the most dedicated, hard working, compassionate and patient people I know when it comes to animals. She is very protective of her fur babies and refuses to just let them go to whoever. I have seen her feed a dog who had to have the back legs held in the air because the poor little one had nerve damage from its abusive owner and was unable to eat any other way. She had a draft horse they shed its hoof. Katie would not give up on her and she was able to live her life out on the farm. If you want to understand what heart and fortitude is volunteer and watch this young lady at work.

My husband and I have been fostering for Lennox for a few years now, and even ended up falling in love with one of our fosters and adopted him! Seeing both sides of the rescue has been a very good experience. Lennox, and all those who strive to help the animals that come through their doors, works hard for every single one of them. It is never easy taking a broken little soul and helping it heal and then finding the perfect family to entrust that little healed soul with. Lennox does a wonderful job of pairing it's animals with the perfect family. I would recommend Lennox's Legacy Rescue to anyone because they're in it to help the animals that most would overlook.

I highly recommend Lennox Legacy Rescue! My first experience with them was in 2019 when my Local Union was on strike. Lennox stepped up and donated pet food to our members in need. Then last October, I was at a fundraiser for Lennox and fell in love with a dog they brought with them.

I instantly filled out an application. The process was very thorough and they communicated well. Within a few days of my application being approved, I was able to take my Rico home.

Shortly after getting him home, I found out he had heartworm. Even though it was not their fault, because he tested negative when they secured him from another shelter (it takes 6 months for heartworm to show up on a test), they offered to pay for the treatment.

Lennox goes above and beyond for their animals and rescuers, and Katie is the hardest worker and biggest animal lover you'll find.

I cannot say enough good things about Lennox! I highly recommend adopting or fostering from Lennox. You will not be disappointed.

I am a visitor/volunteer/friend and family to Lennox’s Legacy. I go there for a month at a time and help out all I can to save Katie as many jobs a day as I can. Katie is great to all of the animals and with that being said, it’s a ton of work every single day! I guess the biggest thing I’ve seen is that people in general have no consideration for her time! She has to schedule meet and greets around every aspect of the rescue and people think she can be easily accessible to them at their requests, when in fact, sometimes it’s impossible. Is she perfect? No, absolutely not, but if you are sitting on the sidelines watching you don’t have a clue how many hours of the day it takes to run the rescue efficiently. Does she rearrange schedules to accommodate people? Yes she tries but sometimes when people ask she already has other scheduled appointments! Does she take the worst of the worst cases? Yes, and does it always turn out well? No, but she’s giving it her all to make it work and make sure the animals are bathed, groomed, fed, clean and happy! I will be a bigger part of the rescue soon and can maybe help a little more. Before you judge any rescue you should ask yourself if you could be that committed to 365 days a year 24 hours a day.

She drives many miles to save an animals life to bring them from lives of hell to homes of long and happy life!
The rescue is very busy and spends many hours working with each animal to bring them from very sick, from being abused, back to a healthy creature who will thrive in a loving home.

Lennoxs has been a long standing pillar within our community, I've helped with several of their cases that involved law enforcement and the state vet. They spend endless hours working with animals other rescues would pass over. Medical and Neglect cases are always handled publicly from the start at intake to the updated photos as the animals move through their program and photos at adoption. Although Katie can be rough around the edges, she's always honest and upfront, you always know where you stand and she's always willing to answer questions. I have adopted 3 times from Lennoxs and the number of repeat adopters they post, speaks volumes. I would never hesitate to recommend that someone adopt from them.

We have volunteered for this rescue for over 10 years. We continue to do so because the animals are well taken care of and no expense is spared to make an animal whole again physically, then fostered in loving homes until they are ready for their own family.

I came across this and In reading some of these reviews, I’m a little taken aback.

Some things to know….
If you put in a application for an animal and don’t hear back, MAKE SURE to double check your email, especially your SPAM. Many approvals go unanswered because of this and then people get upset.
The person who runs the rescue does not choose the adoptive family. Very experienced volunteers who work daily with animals typically do, and that’s with a full time job and families to take care of. Different animals have different criteria that need met to be chosen. They choose an adopter based on what is best for the animal.

Does the woman who runs the rescue occasionally curse? Yes, but so would I if I had to witness a fraction of what she has. I’ve never seen or heard it excessively or directed at anyone, but rather situations.

Does she occasionally pay for animals and then “charge extra”? Yes. She pays for UNALTERED, UNVETTED animals, pays for their vetting and spay/neuter and any other needed surgeries or care, heart worm tests and treats if needed, AND gives the 12 month heart worm shot. She sometimes has to pay for the animals and is willing to do so to get them out of terrible lives and into loving homes. And I guarantee you, many animal’s adoption fees don’t cover extensive vetting done to them.

Is she rude? I’ve never seen it, but she is curt, direct and to the point and doesn’t have time to sugarcoat. She’s not Willie Wonka because she is too busy driving hours on end, transporting animals to and from and picking up the one’s that no one else will. In FACT, she’s the ONLY rescue in Decatur that was willing to take all 20+ dogs from a hoarding case years ago, in 1 trip, and yes the other rescues were contacted and no, she didn’t really have the room or resources, or even fosters at the time. She literally dropped everything to go pick them up. And is also busy with the mucking of stalls, feeding twice a day, running to buy grain and other needs, doing meet and greets, fixing fences, I could go on. It wears me out thinking about it all.

Does she also take 2am calls and answer knocks at her door from the deputies to either go pick up animals, or house and care for them when they need somewhere to go? YES.

Does she lay awake nights stressed out trying to figure out how to get everything done, worried about if there will be enough donations to cover the cost of hay, vetting, broken equipment etc. that needs fixed, animals that are sick, and everything else? All the time.

Does she dip into her own pocket to cover the costs when they outweigh donations? All the time.

Has she ever been mean to an animal, person (even though they probably deserved it), or let an animal suffer?
Never that I have seen or heard of. In fact, quite the opposite. Otherwise there is no way would we have fostered, donated time, money and resources to this rescue for well over 10 years.
We have also adopted 4 dogs and had a forever foster that could not be adopted out (because that’s what was best for the animal).
Kate has ALWAYS put the needs of the animal above all else and has never wavered from doing what she absolutely believes is best. She also has never adopted out or fostered out any animals that may be a potential danger to any family.
She may not do everything perfectly in the eyes of others, but I wholeheartedly believe she does the absolute best she can.
Rescue never stops. There are no days off, there are no breaks, there are no sick days. It’s not perfect. It’s sometimes very ugly.
And anyone who can drag themselves out of bed and do it day in and day out and continuously put the animals first and foremost, to me, is a freaking hero.
Her grit, tenacity and strength go unmatched daily and her passion for the welfare of all animals is what drives us to continue to volunteer.

Words can't even begin to describe how happy we are with our decision to adopt from Lennox. When we started the look for my daughter's pony I was apprehensive at best about rescue. Not because I don't feel it's a great cause. But because this pony was going to be for my baby girl. I needed something for her to grow with and learn the ropes on. At the same time I know that no horse is kid safe. The kicker was my daughter had just experienced the loss of her first one and so.I wanted to avoid an old foot in the grave horse if I could. When we found Puzzle (initially Reece) at lennox....my daughter was in love. I was very honest with what I was looking for in a pony and Kate was more then up front with me. She told me.the pony could be stubborn but was in no way dangerous that they had seen but would not adopt her out as kid safe bc she didn't feel any horse was. When we went out to ride her and try her out she was just that, stubborn but not mean about it. We decided to take the chance and we couldn't be.more happy with it. Puzzle has grown to be my daughter's best friend AND HAS HOME FOR LIFE HERE. This pony is the first one grabbed out of the field for pony rides when the neighbor kids and cousins come over. Never once was she made out to be something she wasn't. I personally was thrilled with Kate's hoensty about the few shortcomings the pony had so we knew about them and the fact that she didn't lie to me about her being "bombproof" just to get her a home. Although that being said she's as close to bombproof as you get!. Over the last 2 years we have kept in touch with Kate and shared accomplishments with her and each time she seems genuinely happy to hear from us. I love that she and the other volunteers love to hear stories about the adoptees and their lives outside of rescue. It shows how much their heart is in it and how much they truly care. 5 Stars and more for Lennox Legacy Rescue and Kate W.!!! If these pictures don't show happiness IDK what does!

I know when Katie tells me something I know I can trust her. We have helped each other with different confiscations, helping with picking up horses, helping out when the other has no room for an animal in need. We are blessed from Lennoxs, this is where we adopted Cammie our 6 year old Havanese. Cammie had a hard life before going into rescue at Lennoxs Legacy. I am so glad they saved her and that we were able to adopt her! Everyone we’ve met through Lennoxs has been kind and giving. We are in Florida on vacation this week and have Cammie with us. We have remained in contact with Kate, who runs the rescue and send support when able. Cammie went from being a scared little breeder dog to a carefree spoiled baby on the beach and she’s loving every minute of her new life! Not a good experience. I was looking to adopt a farm animal and communicated to the owner via email about the animal before I applied. I paid the $25 adoption fee, as she made it sound promising. I emailed a few more questions after that and did not hear back. I soon found out on Facebook the animal I was interested in was adopted. While I am happy for the animal, a simply email saying the animal was adopted would have been nice. I feel she just wanted the money.

I hate to rate so low, because I believe all animals deserve loving homes. That said, my wife and I had a terrible time with this rescue. We applied and got pre-approved, then set up a time to view one of the dogs. However, when asked to confirm the date to view the animal, we accidentally responded to the wrong email address. That is on us, but we noticed and rectified the situation, resending the email with plenty of time left to still solidify our plans. They assured us it was fine and we were halfway into our hour drive before we were emailed (not called, which is weird when you consider they knew we were on our way) and informed that our approval had been revoked. The email further went on to tell us how horrible we were and how there would be two pets in foster homes tonight instead of one because of us. All in all, it was extremely unprofessional. It left my wife in tears, and honestly it's all I can do to be calm in wording this review.

I can't recommend this place. Considering the other reviews left for this place, it really seems like the bottom of the barrel.

I have personally witnessed multiple interactions of the leader of Lennox, Kate, in which she has been beyond cruel to individual's fundraising for her and anyone who ever questions her less than safe animal keeping practices. This rescue gives all rescues a bad name. Kate is rude and completely unprofessional. She frequently uses swearing as a way of communication and she does not deserve the kindness of the animals in her care.

Furthermore, she PAYS for her animals and then charges people MORE for their "adoption". This is NOT rescue, she is a part of the problem.

The thing I love the most is that Lennoxs takes the hardest cases, the ones that other rescues pass over because of behavior or medical needs. This is what real rescue is all about!
