Causes: Crime & Law, Legal Services
Mission: Legal advocacy and resource center, inc. (larc) provides free referral services and legal advice for persons in massachusetts who are unable to afford legal assistance.
Programs: To provide free legal advice, referrals and legal information to mostly low-income people in massachusetts in civil matters. In the calendar year 2014, approximately 12,000 people received free legal advice and/or referrals through the legal hotline. In addition to providing legal advice, larc advocates screen every caller to see if they are eligible for representation by any of the legal service agencies from the massachusetts eastern region. If a caller meets the criteria for one of the agencies, larc sends all of the information, via a shared electronic network, directly to the program. Also, larc publishes the intake update which is a monthly newsletter that lists current intake information from the major legal service programs throughout the state.
