Mission: Learningworks reimagines learning through innovative programs that help children, adults, and families realize their potential and build thriving communities.
Programs: Lwas provides extended learning opportunities for 1,000 students in grades 2-5 who have been identified as academically off track by their teachers. Students attend the program each day afterschool for the duration of the school year and for five weeks each summer. We provide a stem based program that intergrates engineering, math, and literacy activities through an experiential, relevant, and engaging curriculum. Students are able to take field trips, access enrichment activities, and receive free transportation and food during the program. Lwas students demonstrate significant gains in their literacy and numeracy skills.
yba is an alternative high school program for youth between ages of 16 and 24 who have dropped out of high school and are unemployed. Using a nationally recognized model, students receive an intergrated academic and occupational skills program that teaches construction skills and prepares youth for the high school equivalency exam. Students take their construction training into the community to rehabilitate low-income housing and practice service learning and leadership. The program provides wraparound services like case management, job placement assistance, and college prep activities to help students realize their potential.
aims high places teams of dedicated americorps members in local classrooms to support students' academic and social success. Members provide support through tutoring, mentoring, and extended learning strategies in and outside of the classroom. The program helps build stronger schools and communities throughout southern maine the placement of up to 100 members annually in struggling schools.
