Programs: In 2014, laughing eyes kennels had 12 dogs in training as service and therapy dogs for the disabled. As part of the training program, laughing eyes staff took dogs for therapy visits with developmentally disabled adults at the new horizons developmental center in carrizozo, nm. The new horizons residents eagerly stoke and talk to the dogs, confirming to us the value of this community service (provided at no charge by laughing eyes). During 2014, four service dogs were placed with laughing eyes' disabled clients. Laughing eyes defrayed part of the cost of dogs for two clients disabled by post traumatic stress disorder (ptsd),providing scholarships from lek's ptsd survivor fund. Laughing eyes trainers made presentations to various organizations and to students at peace village (children's summer camp), ruidoso public library, cub scouts, and eastern new mexico university, providing educational materials regarding the roles of service dogs, training methods using operant conditioning, and psychological benefit of service and therapy animals.
