Adult literacy program core value education -providing opportunities for spanish speakers to develop their critical consciousness. We work to empower people who feel marginalized, socially and politically, to take control of their own learning and to effect social change while developing basic literacy skills. The adult literacy program includes the following programs: plaza comunitaria is a free curriculum in spanish created by the mexican national institute of adult education (inea) to help hispanics learn to read and write in
their native language and finish elementary- and intermediate-level education certified by the mexican department of education. Hiset - high school equivalency (formerly ged) preparation in spanish this is a five month preparation course where students study writing, social studies, science, mathematics, language and arts, in preparation for the comprehensive high school equivalency exam. Digital literacy - basic and intermediate computer classes provide the basic knowledge that adults need to o
financial literacy - this workshop teaches latino participants about the importance of credit; how to build credit and protect it; identity theft; accessing one's credit report; saving money; building assets and starting businesses. It places latinos on the path to home ownership, equity building and entrepreneurial opportunities.
