Landpaths actively engages people with the land through a variety of stewardship and recreation activities. A sampling of their initiatives include urban farming in a Santa Rosa neighborhood where 14 languages are spoken to clearing invasive species on a parcel of land that was donated to the organization. I spent the day in central Sonoma county clearing the invasive species Scotch Broom to reduce fire hazard and allow for the native plants to have a fighting chance. During the day I had the pleasure of getting to know other volunteers and was briefed by the leadership during lunch on current issues facing land management as a result of the economic slump and what I could do about it. Landpaths addresses the critical need of connecting people with their surroundings through meaningful projects.
