I volunteered at one of their fundraising events. They held a wine walk in Uptown Whittier to raise funds for high school students to have a summer trip to a college campus and experience the dorms for a few days. The event included sponsors from local businesses. We served wine to about 100 adults with many asking if there would be another fundraiser. Overall, it was a fun event that provided a helpful and fun experience for kids looking to college.

L.E.A.R.N is a wonderful community-based organization and partner that provides a great service to our San Gabriel Valley community. The fact that they seek to provide resources, opportunities, and services to students, their family, and the community at large while centering the voices, wants, and interests of these stakeholders sets them apart. They truly care about making a difference in the lives of our youth, and their families, and this is evident in the care their staff takes to build authentic relationships with their students. They are an invaluable partner to our communities.

LEARN has been such a great support to the community. From offering after school assistance with homework, to the extra curricular programs, and finally to the amazing sports program that's completely free of cost. The community benefits so much from these opportunities because they get to set out to try new things, as well as utilize the resources LEARN offers for free. It provides equal access to things that would normally cost too much for some people to afford. The role the agency plays in caring for students and families is super important because it allows for everyone to have a chance at success. Keep up the great work!

This organization is constantly working to meet the changing needs of the communities it serves. Every program is different because every district and school is different, and the organization grows and changes to support the most current needs of students and families. A huge testament to the organization's impact is the number of program staff who were program participants when they were students themselves, and have chosen to come back and work with kids from their own community.

LEARN provides much needed services to the schools in the Rio Hondo College district and beyond. The organization sees that the students get the academic support they need, but just as importantly, LEARN provides a social support system and an opportunity for them to engage in organized physical activities. I have seen the tremendous effects LEARN has had at the collegiate level.

I'm very grateful to have been employed by L.E.A.R.N as a Site Supv. in its ASPIRE afterschool program. The skills and knowledge acquired during my tenure with L.E.A.R.N, such as effective communication, conflict management, teamwork skills, and problem-solving, have been beneficial in my career. Skills that I have strengthened and still utilize in my current occupation (Management in Gov't sector). I miss working with the children, families, school personnel, and the great staff at L.E.A.R.N. Thank you, Robert Arellanes and Brenda Carrillo, for your guidance and dedication to the children and the communities. I'm fortunate to have experienced the positive impact L.E.A.R.N made in the communities, the staff, and most notably in the lives of the children and their families. I can never forget the impact programs such as "Keys to College" services for both students and parents and "KidsPlay," organized league play, had on the children and how eager they were to attend and participate.

Robert Arellanes and his team do an excellent job providing valuable resources for high school students seeking college guidance and admission. LEARN understands the importance of providing much needed programing and dedicated staff members, who can serve as tutors and mentors to many of our underserved communities. There is a tremendous need to support our students. Every high school should have LEARN on their campus.

In Jan. 2019 and Jan. 2020, I was invited by LEARN to join panels consisting of Cal Berkeley alumni for the purpose of meeting and talking with groups of Berkeley students who had just completed their participation in the “Cal Externship” program. Cal Externship allows a Berkeley student to explore a career field and connect with a Cal alumnus by shadowing the alumnus during the winter break. More specifically, the Cal Externship program is an educational experience for students, during which students gain insightful experience in a professional environment, have the chance to explore a career area to which they might otherwise not have exposure, or build their professional network in their chosen career area. I found the students who participated in this program to be very appreciative of the program, and they were very self-motivated and positive about their future. In brief, the meetings with the students were uplifting!

In Jan. 2020, I was invited by LEARN to serve as an evaluator of projects completed by students of the El Monte City School District, and that were presented at a “coding fair” held at Rio Hondo College. The projects dealt with finding solutions to real-world problems. The coding fair was the culmination of a “Kids Code” program, consisting of an after-school coding program offered at two elementary schools in the El Monte City School District. The students set up storyboards at the fair explaining their projects and findings. I found the students to be enthusiastic about their projects, and eager to talk about them. The coding fair was an uplifting event!

I had the pleasure of working with L.E.A.R.N. as a local elected official over the past several years. They are a top-notch organization with dedicated and enthusiastic staff and leadership. Robert Arellanes is someone who leads by example. He truly values the organization's mission and fights for our kids at a time when they desperately need help. I had the chance to watch him and his staff in action at Rio Hondo Community College during a coding camp. It was truly inspiring to watch the students grow through their own hard work and efforts. I enthusiastically support L.E.A.R.N. and its efforts to create a better environment for students.

LEARN has really gone above and beyond to assist our schools in remediating learning loss for students. Their enrichment programs provide healthy outlets for students and their academic tutoring assists students in staying on track for graduation and college acceptance. More recently, they have been invaluable in helping support our COVID-19 testing program. I genuinely appreciate their positive can-do attitude in tailoring their programming to meet our needs. Sometimes it really feel like they are too good to be true, as if the other shoe will drop soon but it's been more than 12 years that we have partnered with LEARN and I'm as much of a fan today as ever!

I've worked for LEARN on and off for several years, especially during the summers while I was in college. LEARN gave me the opportunity to try new things as an employee and to expand my work experiences. Staff are welcoming, encouraging, and genuinely work together as a team. The kids that I had the pleasure of working with were incredibly grateful for all that LEARN offered them. LEARN is an organization that, while it has grown, has not lost touch with its founding message. They work for the community, with the community.

I always have been 100% behind aspire but unfortunately after not being fair with all the coordinators I took my child out. Sense 1st grade both my kids have been in aspire, and after they asked the last coordinator to go to school for a class on Tuesdays and Thursdays they worked with her schedule and left her as coordinator, but now they can't do that to this coordinator knowing that she has been with many of these kids for years they do this. There are many parents that are upset and specially sense the new coordinator is a little rude and mean with the kids.
