67 African penguins saved after critical care and rehabilitation
20 African penguin families protected with artificial nests
2,800 African penguins protected by the seabird ranger, whose salary/expenses we fund
Life-saving equipment provided: KruShan Foundation X-ray room for critical on-site diagnostics and reliable freezers to store fish to ensure rescued penguins stay fed.
Target demographics: protect critically endangered African penguins in South Africa and Namibia, the only two places in the world with active colonies which may become extinct in the wild by 2035.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 2,800 African penguins and one underprivileged student (sponsored for a three-year DEEP blue Ambassador program)
Geographic areas served: South Africa and Nambia and are based in Wimberley, Texas--We are the only US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated solely to protecting critically endangered African penguins from extinction.
Programs: To prevent the extinction of African penguins—an indicator species signaling the decline of their marine ecosystem—we collaborate with partners in South Africa to protect them through rehabilitation, resource provision, artificial nest deployment, marine advocacy, and education, ensuring their survival and the long-term health of their environment beyond 2035.
