Mission: Enhance the quality of life in siskiyou county by improving community health and promoting economic development.
Programs: Community benefit activities of klamath health services, inc. Focus on stakeholder education as well as community prevention, clinical screenings and early intervention programs. As such, the community health access areas of childhood oral health, health reform education, stakeholder coordination and general population clinical preventive screenings were targeted with funding received between july 1, 2010 and june 30, 2011 of $28,230. Over 1500 community members were served including (213 preschoolers) + (300 ob moms) + (150 elementary school children with oral health screenings in the school) + (192 elementary school children on the dental van) + (300 golden fair attendees receiving no cost health screening and referrals) + (45 agencies participating in the healthcare stakeholder coalition) + (an estimated 300 residents requiring education and navigation support related to health care reform). 1. Elementary school oral health outreach and direct service: $ in kind suppliesthis project was continued in two communities: mccloud and yreka utilizing the materials and supplies remaining following the sierra health foundation's initial 3 year brightsmiles grant period. Materials and labor were 100% donated this year in support of furthering this important work. 2. First five siskiyou preschool oral health and nutrition outreach, education and screening project: $8,989first five siskiyou preschool oral health project reached 213 preschool aged children with oral health exams, teeth cleaning, fluoride varnish, nutrition and oral health education and resource and referral information pertaining to early childhood oral health care. In addition, 300 expectant mothers received the nutrition, oral health education and resource and referral information pertaining to maternal/child and early childhood oral health care. This project also involved the volunteer participation of siskiyou county maternal, child and adolescent health personnel, 13 preschool sites and their staff as well as local ob/gyn practices who distributed the information to expectant mothers. 3. Clinical preventive screenings: $1,200siskiyou health partners provided over 300 screenings at the siskiyou golden fair in august of 2010. The screenings were provided by 100% volunteer personnel from local provider organizations and included skin cancer, cholesterol, glucose, and pulmonary screenings. Funding for this project was provided by community health plan of the siskiyous, mercy medical center-mt. Shasta and in-kind contributions from the volunteer provider organizations. 4. Siskiyou health partnership: $1,200area healthcare stakeholders participated in 6 convenings held every other month with the goal of increasing interagency understanding, developing objective-based collaborations and coordinating agency and cbo activities to enhance efficient delivery of outreach and health care services. This community service is provided through in-kind support by community health plan of the siskiyous (staff), the college of the siskiyous (facilities), and various agencies for staff time and mileage. 5. Mobile dental services: $19,100collaboration with the siskiyou county dental task force and siskiyou county office of education. Under agreement with siskiyou county dental task force, khsi raised community funding to match with agency funds to enable two full weeks of restorative mobile dental care throughout our county in may, 2011. At total of 192 students were seen on the dental van receiving services ranging from exam, x-rays, fluoride varnish application, sealants, fillings, extractions and referral.
