Mission: This corporation is organized exclusively for charitable, educational and scientific purposes, including, but not limited to, scholarship grants, improvements to school facilities, and enhancement of school programs to the extent such acts are consistent with the provisions of chapter 504a of the code of iowa (1993) and sections 501(c)(3) and 170(b)(1)(a)(vi) of the internal revenue code of 1986 as amended (or the corresponding provisions of any future internal revenue law).
Programs: Grant to keota community school district - grant awarded based upon funds raised by solicitations to the community and various fundraisers held through the calendar year, including letters to supporters. The keota community school district is based in keota, iowa, and is the public pk-12 facility serving the local community. The monies raised supported the hiring of teachers in certain hard to secure subject areas and support of new textbooks and teaching aids for the school. The keota school district serves a large portion of keokuk county, iowa, which has been designated a rural renewal community. The grant included $10,000 for technology upgrades, $105 for assistance with a school trip and $850 for classroom supplies/upgrades for teachers.
3scholarships for students pursuing post-secondary education - since its inception, the foundation has annually raised funds and awarded scholarships for graduates of keota community school district that are furthering their education after high school. In may 2017, scholarships totaling $15,650 were awarded to 16 individuals. Applications are submitted by high school seniors and scored by a committee of the board of directors and volunteers. The foundation in more recent years has sought to provide some assistance to all eligible applicants. The amount awarded to individuals has varied based upon the score assigned by the reviewing committee members. In addition to the general scholarships awarded, additional separate scholarships have been established by donors of the foundation. Scholarships are awarded in may to be paid to the student or college after submission of fall transcripts showing completion of the 1st semester classes and a confirmation of enrollment for the following spring term. A few multi-year scholarships are awarded for students meeting specific criteria. Payments of $18,300 to previously named recipients were paid in 2017.
