Mission: To promote, for the benefit of the general public, the conservation of land and water natural resources principally in, but not limited to, the town of kent, connecticut.
Programs: Conservation property stewardship: the organization emphasizes proper stewardship of its conservation properties through restoration of native wildlife and plant habitat, inluding removal of invasive plants. It maintains several miles of recreational and nature trails on its preserves for the enjoyment of the public. The organization monitors and enforces the conservation restrictions on its properties in accordance with its obligations under federal and state law.
conservation acquisition: the organization protects conservation resources including water, wetlands, forest, and farmland through direct ownership and conservation easements. In 2016, the organization acquired fee title to 1 25. 33 parcel and 1 19. 78 acre conservation easement.
conservation education and outreach: the organization conducts public education and outreach events throughout the year, drawing on the support of more than 100 community volunteers to organize hikes, scout service projects, educational presentations, and other events. Each year it hosts a town-wide community conservation picnic with family-oriented activities and displays encouraging conservation. It publishes a regular e-newsletter and shares conservation information via social media. The organization rents property to a local organic vegetable farmer and manages a community garden on trust land.
