Mission: The Kensington Soccer Club / Philadelphia community empowerment through soccer (pcets) believes in community empowerment through soccer. Our mission is to work with Kensington area youth and families to provide positive, healthy, and enjoyable youth soccer activities while building teamwork, leadership, and community. We strive to achieve the following: provide a safe, welcoming setting where large numbers of low-income children can learn soccer, the value of exercise, teamwork and the value of working hard to achieve their goals; foster competitive opportunities for children who want to play soccer at a higher level and have committed to working hard to achieve that goal; connect low-income players and their parents to services and opportunities that they might otherwise not be aware of and be able to access.
Results: We serve more than 1,500 children a year.
Target demographics: we bring low-cost high quality soccer to Kensington - area children
Direct beneficiaries per year: More than 1,500 children

Programs: We run large outdoor intramural soccer programs for low-income children, ages 3 to 19, that introduce them to soccer and builds teamwork and a sense of shared community, while also giving players health and nutrition information. Teens are developed as leaders by becoming coaches for younger children and helping run the program. Parents become involved as team coaches and managers. We also work to connect parents and players to community resources that can help them better their lives and become more active in the community. We run a variety of travel soccer program for low-income children that gives more skilled players a chance to compete at a higher level. Our teams participate in safe and healthy activities that build teamwork and a sense of shared community. Teens are developed as leaders by becoming coaches and helping run the program. Parents are involved as coaches and team managers. In the fall, for children ages 6 to 14, we offer an outdoor recreational program two evenings a week and Saturday morning or early afternoon at Third and Dauphin Streets in Philadelphia. Also in the fall, we will have Saturday-only introductory soccer for children aged 3 to 5 at Third and Dauphin Streets in Philadelphia, starting in early April. Also in the Fall, we have several competitive teams, playing in a Philadelphia Parks and Recreation League and other teams playing in a Bucks County Recreational league. We bring soccer to local after school programs and recreation centers in the Kensington area, typically with two sessions at the schools and rec centers during the week and a Saturday session at Third and Dauphin. We are also looking for volunteer accounting and volunteer administrative help. Experience in playing and knowledge of soccer a big plus. Coaching experience and / or experience working with children a big plus. Commitment to providing a caring and supportive environment for children a very big plus. Ability to speak languages other than English, especially Spanish, a plus. We are looking for people who are willing to make a commitment to work with a team for at least one 9 to 10-week season, helping the children grow and develop in both soccer skills and personal development - learning teamwork and having healthy interactions with other children. We also have a SAVE - Soccer Athletes Value Education - Table on weekends, with educational enrichment and reading to children who participate in our program. NOTE: Please be aware: We awaiting final word from the city and the Parks and Recreation League about whether we will be able to have soccer as usual and we are developing a Return to Play policy to prepare for resuming in- person soccer. But we are going ahead in registering participants and forming teams so we can be prepared to play, when that becomes safe for our players, their families, and our coaches.
