Mission: To improve health care quality, coordination and efficiency through the exchange of health information at the point of care utilizing a secure electronic network provided by a collaboration of health care organizations.
Programs: During 2016, kansas health information network, inc. (khin) provided health information exchange services to over 1,100 kansas health care member organizations. These included query based and direct messaging services. These services allowed khin member organizations to access a longitudinal record of all of a patient's health and behavioral health information across all of the organizations in which the patient has received care. Approximately 450,000 queries for patient information were made on a quarterly basis. Khin also provided direct services which allow important health information to be exchanged electronically through a secure encrypted email system developed by the federal government. In addition, khin served as the transport layer for kansas health care providers to transport their public health information to the state and federal registries. This included sending immunization data to the kansas immunization registry/webiz, sending reportable labs to epitrax, sending syndromic surveillance data to biosense/cdc, sending cancer summary documents to the kansas cancer registry and sending data to the kansas infectious disease registry as well as the kansas birth defects registry. Lastly, khin provided a personal health record (phr) for all kansas patients. This is a secure electronic location for patients to receive and send secure emails to health care providers. Patients can also maintain their health records here as well as maintain important health documents such as a living will. Sixteen locations are the pilot sites for the new phrs called mykshealtherecords. In 2016, khin's mykshealtherecords completed an integration with the ks immunization registry allowing patients to view, transmit, and download their immunization records from the state of kansas. On july 9, 2014, khin was awarded formal membership in ehealth exchange, formally known as (nwhin). Ehealth exchange is the governance mechanism that the office of the national coordinator estabilished for the national health information exchange. This membership allows us to connect to other health information exchanges as well as make connections with the veteran's administration. In 2015, khin completed the integration with hie texas.
