Mission: We funded and administered the implementation of a small business development program in kamina in the katanga province of the democratic republic of the congo.
Programs: For the 9 years, the enterprise facilitation model of small business development worked to produce jobs and support for new and existing businesses in kamina, democratic republic of congo. Expansion to two other communities (bukama and kalemie) have had their own limited successes due to this form of small business coaching and community development. While our communication deals primarily with our friends in kamina, we hear intermittent reports from the other communities they continue to use and implement the ef model. While ongoing advice and coaching from kamina friends in the united states has waned, the locals have learned to search for alternative resourcing that can contribute to the long-term sustainability of this project in the drc. It is becoming apparent the locals in kamina bukama, and kalemie have taken complete ownership of the ongoing development and support of business expansion in the drc.
