I joined the Junior League of Pittsburg 4 years ago. I was looking to give back to the community and train as a volunteer. I have had the opportunity to chair a major league fundraiser and this year, join the Board of Directors. I have met amazing and talented women that I am lucky to work with and even luckier to call my friends. I have had, and continue to have chances to attend trainings that have enabled me to be a professional volunteer.

I joined the Junior League of Pittsburgh 4 years ago to meet other women in my community. The organization has not only introduced me to these other women; but helped me grow as not only as an individual but also as a leader. I have been able to take on leadership roles within the organization as well as now serving on other boards and commissions. The Junior League of Pittsburgh is a group of women who have huge hearts and are always willing to give back too their community, whether through fundraisers such as the Americna Girl Fashion Show or through helping our with our projects such as Kids-in-the-Kitchen. The Junior League of Pittsburgh works hard to not only give back but train our volunteers so we can encourage their involvement in the community. I think the Junior League of Pittsburgh is a truly beneficial organization for women of all ages and backgrounds. We have a lot of fun and all while helping to improve the Pittsburgh community.
The experience of building a Junior League of Pittsburgh (JLP) playground through their partnership with KaBoom inspired my family and I to organize a community playground in our rural Ohio community. We utilized the JLP's model of fundraising first followed by organizing into committees to implement the project and its construction. The the JLP served the children of their community by building a three playgrounds in the area, but they also served children in rural Ohio by serving as a (role) model for how a small group of individuals can bring about big change for a neighborhood.
The women of JLP have dedicated their efforts to special causes over the years, for example today's national crisis, eliminating childhood obesity. But what I feel is most important about the JLP has been the positive impact the voluteers have on the young girls they come in contact with by leading by example - showing young girls that they can do anything they put their mind too.
