Mission: Junior league of minneapolis, inc (the league) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The league's purpose is to exclusively volunteer training to prepare members for civic and volunteer leadership. Through active participation members develop leadership skills that are needed to serve on nonprofit boards, in civic organizations and in volunteer management. Of our current membership, countless individuals are serving in leadership roles at other community organizations. Alumnae of our program have served as nonprofit ceo's and senior leaders, board presidents and chairs, and founded new nonprofits.
Programs: Volunteer training - the league provides leadership training and skill development for the members to strengthen the league and to improve the community through trained volunteers. Through active participation, members gain valuable skills ranging from fundraising, marketing, budgeting and public speaking to developing and implementing community programs.
other community programs include: backpack buddies - backpack buddies seeks to address the achievement gap by reducing the effects of hunger on learning for children in food insecure families. The program provides nutritious, easy-to-prepare food over the weekend to kids in food insecure homes in the greater twin cities area. The objective is to bridge the gap between friday and monday when food may not be available, and thereby provide a bit of security for participating children and their families. Between the lines - between the lines is a project that positively impacts the community by promoting literacy and strengthening family bonds between incarcerated or deployed military caregivers and their children. Through this program, caregivers read books onto tapes, which are sent to their children in cd-format along with a new, gift wrapped book. These children are then able to hear their caregivers' voices at any time. Additionally, listening to the recordings while following along in the books provided by between the lines enhances reading skills. Helping hands - helping hands supports the jlm mission of improving the community by meeting short-term needs and providing jlm members with diverse opportunities for hands-on volunteer experience. Hands-on math, engineering and science (h. O. M. E. S. ) - engages and equips parents with ways to continue math, engineering and science activities through hands-on projects in their homes.
leagueaires - represents trained volunteers who bring the joy of music to the elderly, mentally or physically challenged children and adults, and to disadvantaged children. This group of trained volunteers also continues to train other volunteers in the fundamentals of therapeutic music.
