Causes: Women, Womens Service Clubs
Programs: During the 2016-17 year, the junior league had 86 active members, 19 provisional members, and 158 sustaining members. We provided $13,300 in community funding, distributed 1,500 books, performed 550 volunteer hours. We founded the books for bethel project to supply books to the children of the bethel homes community before summer, in an effort to prevent the summer slide in regard to their reading level.
junior league of athens operates the taylor-grady house, boyhood home to henry grady, newspaper editor and leading voice for reintegration of north and south after the civil war. Owned by athens-clarke county, the ca. 1845 home is a national historic landmark, the highest landmark designation bestowed within athens. The junior league opens the house for public tours and field trips daily, as well as private events; 47 weddings, parties, receptions and corporate events were hosted during the 2016-17 year.
