Programs: JELF (Jewish Educational Loan Fund) is proud to be the only non-profit organization in the United States exclusively providing interest-free loans to Jewish students with demonstrated financial need, allowing them to pursue their higher education without the drain of interest-bearing debt. Given the soaring costs of college, graduate school, and vocational school, the number of Jewish students and families facing economic hardship rises year after year. With the ever-rising cost of higher education, soaring debt continues to be a barrier for many Jewish community members. Even with significant financial aid, many students still experience a deficit in funds for necessities including room and board, books/supplies, transportation, utilities, and healthcare. JELF’s loan program helps offset many of these necessary expenses. JELF’s application process is built on a collaborative model that incorporates dozens of local Jewish partner agencies in communities throughout its five-state region. Each applicant and their cosigner must have a personal interview with an LJA (Local JELF Administrator) to best assess their unique circumstances and need. Lending is JELF’s sole purpose, with well-developed loan processing, disbursement, and repayment processes overseen and implemented by trained, experienced staff members and volunteers.
