Mission:
The JSPCA is dedicated to improving the lives of Jerusalem''s stray, unwanted, injured, and abused animals. Our shelter is the only refuge for homeless animals in Jerusalem and the surrounding areas. These desperate animals are provided with food, medical care and a chance to find permanent loving homes. The goal of the JSPCA is, through education on responsible pet care and our spay/neuter campaign, to eliminate the need for our shelter that homes thousands of animals a year.
The JSPCA believes in achieving its goals by fulfilling the immediate needs of the animals while simultaneously working towards prevention. The Atarot shelter, the clinic, the spay/neuter campaign, the adoption campaign, and the educational outreach are all components of our work on behalf of animal welfare.
The Atarot shelter houses around 400 animals at any given time, mostly dogs and cats. Animals come to us from within the city of Jerusalem, Arab villages, neighboring cities, kibutim, army bases, rescues by our volunteers, and animals left at the shelter gates. For every animal getting a new home there is another one with a sad story coming in to the shelter. We provide not only food and shelter but medical care and rehabilitation if needed. Many volunteers foster animals in need of the most rehabilitation.
The adoption campaign is a vital aspect of the JSPCA mission. The JSPCA strives to find the right home for each animal that will provide them with a permanent loving situation.
The 24 hour clinic run by the JSPCA in Jerusalem provides emergency care to owned and stray animals alike. It is an entry point for Jerusalem citizens to the JSPCA and gives them a place to support the work of the organization within the city.
The spay/neuter campaign is the only resolution to the feral cat overpopulation in Jerusalem. The JSPCA offers low cost spaying/neutering for feral cats including trapping and additional medical care when needed. In addition every animal that resides in the shelter or is adopted from us has been spayed or neutered.
The JSPCA educational campaign focuses on teaching the importance of spay/neuter, pet ownership responsibility, adoption, and animal welfare. Education is the best tool we have to provide a better life for all animals.
Programs: Maintain JSPCA shelter at full working capacity in order to rehabilitate and rehome as many animals in need as possible.
Feed and provide medical care for all shelter animals and for the street animals we rescue continuously.
Educate public with the JSPCA spay/neuter campaign.
