Mission: Island Press is a nonprofit organization that produces pioneering, multidisciplinary and timely information that stimulates, shapes, and communicates ideas essential for solving environmental problems and protecting the diversity of life.
Programs: RESEARCH AND PUBLICATION -- Each year, Island Press publishes 40 to 50 peer-reviewed books authored by leading scientists and thought leaders. Our publishing focuses on advancing solutions in four key areas: CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENERGY ? We have recently published books that document the dangers inherent in our oil based economy such as Lives per Gallon by Terry Tamminen, a guide for activists to take action such as Ignition edited by Jonathan Isham and Sissel Waage and a vision for the way forward, most recently with Apollo?s Fire by Congressman Jay Inslee and Bracken Hendricks. GREEN ARCHITECTURE AND LAND PLANNING ? As one of the pioneers of the Green Architecture movement, Island Press is providing architects and designers the knowledge to reduce energy costs in their production designs so our society can drastically reduce energy output simply by the way we live. OCEAN CONSERVATION ? We at Island Press have recently published several books that document, address and issue possible solutions to the unsustainable exploitation of oceans. ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION ? Island Press has been involved in a serious campaign over the past two years to inform policymakers, the private sector and the general public about the necessity of utilizing biodiversity for human ends.
