Mission: The iowa valley rc&d provides ways for benton, iowa, johnson, linn, poweshiek, and tama county residents to plan and implement projects that will make their communities better places to live.
Programs: Women, land & legacy program - the women, land and legacy (wll) project, as part of the work of iowa valley rc&d, includes expanding a long term statewide outreach effort to include an additional sector of rural women. Wll has always targeted farm women and with the current project efforts, reaches out to women owned or co-owned small rural businesses in two pilot counties, iowa and tama. This effort provides opportunity for these business owners to voice their needs to expand or retain their small business, which allows wll and/or its partners to conduct learning sessions to address the locally identified educational needs. This project also takes action to expand the existing wll by updating the website, developing social media avenues, developing a quarterly newsletter and creating/printing new program brochures. As part of this project, the wll team has also developed a training curriculum for wll local teams statewide to assist them expand their efforts and retain/create success and sustainability within their local wll outreach.
