Mission:
IMEC’s mission is to serve doctors and nurses in developing countries by providing them with quality medical equipment to advance the standard of health care for their nation’s poor. IMEC fulfills its mission by working with other humanitarian organizations to revitalize existing impoverished hospitals with donated medical equipment and supplies that are acquired, repaired and packaged by dedicated volunteers.
Programs: IMEC's operating program involves the collection of surplus medical and dental equipment from hospitals, clinics and physician and dental offices. It is brought to IMEC's distribution center where it is reconditioned, cleaned and cosmetically improved, if necessary. It is then shipped to underserved countries around the world. IMEC works in collaboration with other humanitarian groups, which are called "shepherding organizations", to assure that the equipment is successfully delivered to its destination, installed, and the caregivers are instructed on its proper usage and maintenance. To date, IMEC has completed projects in Ukraine, China, Romania, Jamaica, Myanmar, Tanzania, Liberia, Haiti, Micaragua, and India.
